Some of you must be white with the whole work smart thing. If you're a black male working in corporate America, working hard is pretty much your only guarantee of moving up the ladder.

Heres a gem, in this day and age you have to out smart everyone to get the job not work harder. If a company wants a minority they will get a "hard working" black woman or white woman for the role, black men have to be able to finesses their way into roles. It is impossible to know everything at a job and black men must work SMART and be cautious of everything. In Corporate America you can be the hardest working black man in the company but get fired because they say you weren't sociable and it offended /made co workers field threatened. Hard work = Doing the job no matter what kind of toll it takes on you, Working Smart = analyzing your task at hand and finding the most efficient way to do the job that will net you the greatest amount of reward for least amount of risk.

The simple fact people cannot understand this concept shows why they will never be successful at what ever it is they do or choose to do in life. As a Black Man you have to out smart everyone around you, not even in a way that your goal is to take advantage of people, but you have all odds stacked against you AND people looking to exploit you at times, you are a damn fool if you think just showing up and working hard will lead you to the promise land.

man when I was in college working little jobs, there were sooooooo many dudes that had been in their jobs for 10+ yrs and were the best at what they do and thought that would get them into management. The simple fact people are saying this hard work stuff shows they dont do anything impactful for a living. If you work for someone Politics is a hurdle, and when you own your own business ROI is the biggest thing both of which you must work SMART.

We tell our kids this BS hard work stuff so our kids kill themselves in school trying to "work hard" then they graduate and can't get a job or get a job and dont climb the ranks/get laid off and dont know how to bounce back because they had so much tunnel vision when it came to work.

Why wouldn't a Steve Jobs tell people to work hard? All these CEOs tell people work hard so they can hire your dumb ass so you can do all the work for them and think "if I work hard enough I will become CEO" when these companies will just get their next CEO from the outside or promote the CEOs golf buddy.
