On a global level yup it will. But I don’t see America allowing that to happen on their soil tho.

You have a point. But I see it as a "too big that it can't be denied" type of change that would happen

You got Davido that's American born, Wizkid is a household name here, and Burna Boy is known by probably everyone who is exposed to black culture

Combined that with the newfound attention on Africa by Americans with the "Back to Ghana" movement, African news being more exposed to Americans, etc

Plus the 1st generation Africans are now in their 20s and 30s and influencing more of American and Canadian culture

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.

It would be something to see but America can be full of itself sometime. God for it someone else does something better than them or they aren’t in the spotlight anymore.

Btw are you ADOS or West Indian?

Afrobeat is cool and all, a nice niche/fad but its a certain vibe you get from reggae. Maybe you are comparing afrobeat with some of the new bullshyt b*stardized reggae or some bullshyt reggaeton. But let's be real, you not jumping up at a party or setting the vibe to a party like reggae.

Vibe Example:

:mjcry:
At the disrespect reggae gets. It shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as modern Afrobeats. Most consistent genre for 40 years.

Nah that would never happen in my opinion Hip Hop is a complete different entity.

So who are the best Afrobeats artists?Generally it's a little bland to me but went the latest Burna Boy album and liked what I heard. The production seemed to have more depth compared to the other stuff I've heard, granted I don't listen to it much
this isnt contemporary afrobeat but if you arent up on the classics you gotta be. one of my favorite songs ever (extremely long though):

IMMIGRANT TETHERS
I feel like Jamaican migration to England helped push the global appeal of reggae at it's heights.

But the last time I was in London, I felt that African immigrants were overtaking the Jamaican community in influence. I don't know.

And with the African community having large numbers now in Paris, Italy, and Spain, afrobeats is bound to take over even american music.
afrobeat isn't really popular in France I think. African influence music dominates France, but it's mostly Congolese, Ivorian fusion music with Arab dikkriding

It could be popular in Italy though with Naijas already making a name for themselves there.

A long time ago.
Hell reggae is not even the most popular music out the islands now, soca passed it a long time ago as well. :heh:

True story, I still 'cop' mp3s for hobby DJing and I noticed a genre called Soca on my collection. I'm in the process of deleting the bullshyt that I've downloaded since I download anything. Anyways, I'm looking at artists named Destra and Problem Child and I am thinking about simply 86ing the whole genre to save time. I click on a Destra song, I was vibing with it. I clicked on a Problem Child song, it was fire too. I not only kept all the music, I'm actively looking for more. shyt is dope. For all of my love for music, reggae rarely connects with me.

Afrobeat is beginning to be huge. Actually, Afrotrap is really huge in France. Rap music mixed with african music. You can hear it in every club and stores. MHD was the number one at one point, until he got jailed.

Nigerian migrants in Sicily are building a buzzing Afrobeats scene from scratch
Palermo, Italy
February 21, 2020

By Joe Penney
Palermo-based Afrobeats artist RayJeezy (center) in the music video for “Royalty Pt. 2,” featuring Oritsefemi.

The Ballaró neighborhood lies in the former historic city center of Palermo, the capital of Sicily, Italy. A few decades ago, Ballaró was known to be a dangerous part of the city controlled by brutal mafia bosses.

Today, the neighborhood is safe and revitalized, thanks to the arrival of African and Asian migrants. Among these immigrants is a community of Nigerian musicians building an Afrobeats industry from scratch.

its a Canadian that been the top star in hip hop even in the US for a decade. everything is more globally connected now which is why london producers are consistently working with Brooklyn Artists. we gonna have to see what happens in the states when afrobeats starts peaking with massive global crossover records because thats coming. someone from the genre will break into that bruno mars/weeknd level stardom

I'll take it one step further, Afrobeat will overtake Hip Hop
the numbers are there

but to take the lead they have to lead culturally as a whole

who makes the waves for the image & persona of the youth the blueprint for cool is still here in the states

when you see youth from elsewhere in the lead there then the shift can be considered official

the hip-hop/rap culture incorporates everything in one pot that's what makes it so powerful

it can take on elements of everything & it will always remain hip-hop/rap

ha it's the last genre it's music's final form

it's hard to conquer a genre that takes the best of what you have to offer & the best of any/all generes

i see everything being absorbed into the body of hip-hop/rap

I'm pretty well versed on late 60's-70's Afrobeat but Afrobeats is a different genre no? I thought they were doing Fela stuff when I first started seeing the term
