Has Alchemists Work Rate Covered Up the Mediocrity of the Actual Beats?

The new bandwagon is that Alc is a don for all these new albums hes working on, but to me they all sound the same and is not touching his old school shyt.

We gon make it
hold you down
the realist
book of rhymes
etc
etc

these are the bangers. i listen to his new shyt and tbh it just sounds like a mess to me, 20 different samples thrown into one beat, wack drums that dont hit and just generally no focus.

id put Alch in my top 10 all time producers but this new shyt i just cant feel

Different strokes man. I respect that opinion. Everyone goes through shyt that motivates them to make music, and to me, ALC had pretty much just 2 really distinct styles that stand out in my mind, from 1998 through 2010, and then from 2011 to now he's kinda got a different vibe. He's said he's heavily influenced by Madlib these days.

Once producers get to a certain point, and are good on money, they really stop giving a fukk about anything that doesn't interest them. For better or worse, Alchemist stopped chasing big placements and paychecks a few years ago. Plus, ALL producers are fukkin weirdos. All of em.

Khrysis is literally a musical genius, but he's a strange cat, and when he gets into a zone or style he bugs the fukk out on it and runs with it. I think what we're seeing now is Alchemist just really on a certain style and vibe. You get those classic bangers from him still, but yeah, the style is different.

I like a lot of his new shyt. I like a lot of his old shyt. I am glad for better or worse that he doesn't make beats that sound like his 1999-2004 run. You still get those old style bangers, like Traction, Blood of the Goat, IMDKV, More Wins, Dr. Kimble, Double 07, Genesis of the Omega, Tunnel Vision, Scottie Pippen, The Red Carpet, Yasir Arafat, Trailer Mix, etc.

There's a lot of his newer shyt I don't love. Also when you're doing whole albums, there's way more material to pick apart. Alchemist released 2 albums from 2004-2009, and a couple mixtapes. He's dropped like 6 albums since 2011.

When 9th Wonder started doing collab albums with Murs, Buckshot, Jean Grae, and Skyzoo after the first Little Brother album I think he started catching a lot more hate from online. Let alone all the Justus League cats where he produced the majority of their albums.

oh jheez the alc nut huggers are out

i already said alc is top ten im just saying his new shyt is wack

the prodigy album was the only release im willing to rate at most 4 stars

See that's interesting, because Albert Einstein isn't my favorite from him production wise since the start of 2011 IMO. More Russian loops on there with no drums than I was hoping for. I much prefer the beats on Covert Coup, My 1st Chemistry Set, and Lord Steppington.

i prefer his newer sound.

i feel like alc has really found his "groove" now. it's like parts prog rock, part soul and part "old school sci-fi" type of vibe. i've listened to 5 projects from him in the more recent style:

Covert Coup (where it started for me)
Rare Chandeliers
Albert Einstein
My First Chemistri Set
No Idols

beats all have the same type of style yet the albums still feel different.

You gotta check out the Step Brothers album that he did with Evidence and the 360 Waves album with Durag Dynasty (Planet Asia, Tri-State, and Killer Ben). If you like what you listed you'll love these 2.

youre honestly telling me youll take those 4 beats over:

Currensy - Success is my cologne
Prodigy - Give em hell
Schoolboy Q - Break the Bank
Domo Genesis - gamebreaker
Mac miller - red dot music?

To me, it's apples and oranges. Every beat you named is ridiculous. I know you didn't ask me, but 4 ALC beats are kind of untouchable as far as classic status goes. The Realest, We Gonna Make It, Keep It Thoro, and Worst Comes to Worst.

2 were big hits, and 2 represented timeless work with 2 groups (Mobb Deep and Dilated peoples) that he'd be associated with forever. Worst Comes to Worst is a fukking 6 bar loop (wtf right?) that nobody else could rap on properly (like Big Pun's Boomerang), and The Realest was supposed to be an interlude beat and not even an actual song.

Madlib bodied The Realest sample, made a better beat technically, but I still think the Realest is a better song.

There's just something so simple and sinister about The Realest, and Prodigy and G Rap killed that.

if I was gonna pick 4 classic (not necessarily fave) beats I'm thinking

We Gonna Make it, Backwards, Success is my Cologne, Win or Lose. The Illest is another :wow: beat

Overall I would agree that Alchemist was better back then but for OP do deny the piff were getting now is crazy.

Those 2 are especially timeless out of the pre 2010 joints you listed, obviously We Gonna Make It also. I think Al said Win or Lose was his favorite joint he ever did for Mobb Deep. Backwards is crazy too. I hate they took it off 1st infantry and replaced it with It's a Craze. I always loved the Lloyd Banks joint over Backwards.

Cacs who cant think for themselves will hate this but it's true. Not that his recent shyt is wack, but having no drums, his beats sounding repetitive, and NO BANGERS means he can't be the best producer. All of his recent projects are decent but I'm not playing any months after they dropped.

Havoc's 13 production wise>> recent Alch projects.

Dude a straight looper (for the most part)...

You can make 10 beats a day with straight looping...It's NOTHING...When I was making looped based sample beats, i could make 10 songs using a single loop...Easily...

An Alchemist beat sounds hot until you hear the original and realize, dude just added drums and little sound effects on a great loop...
