Nah ya casual hiphop heads. This ain’t shyt to ya.
The old generation said the same thing about us and gangsta rap.

I will still bump the classic then and current. And will always check for new dope artist. Even if I can’t relate anymore.

This music. I will never not listen to it.
What makes me a casual hip hop head?

you are in love with the artist instead of the genre that's why you care so much about what the masses are listening to instead of the recent music that has come out that you do like

go bump your 'golden age' hip-hop and continue preaching how it was so much better in the 90's

So hip hop hasn’t changed drastically since 96?

It's the same thing we keep saying over and over, there's still quality stuff out there but maybe it takes a more digging and ignoring the oversaturated mainstream.

But yeahI've always been listening to other genres, actually HH in the 90s put me on to a lot of stuff, mostly Jazz, Funk, and whatnot thanks to the samples (salute those random brehs making those samples compilation), me not being in the US I didn't really grow up around that. So now there's still TONS of material for me to go through. I see HH as a branch of wider Black music, so there's tons of stuff to explore with similar elements to HH out there. Being African I'm looking at lot in that direction, SA house especially, but older stuff too.

Just going through Fela's discography will hold me down for a couple decades :blessed::russ:

There's too many classics for me to be bored of hip hop, I'll dabble into oldies and other classic R&B shyt but nah if you appreciate it you'll never get old of it. I tend to enjoy more mature rap as I get older. Every now and then there's newer guys that grab my attention too.

Other than going back to revisit the classics and deep cuts (there was enough music that came out back then to last you the rest of your life), as I've gotten older I've been more open to other genres of music. And I always try to keep an open mind to the new music coming out. I don't like as many of the releases now as back in the golden age, but there's still enough coming out now to keep my ipod full of new playlists. Sometimes it's just about diggin deeper to find the vibe you're lookin for
