Yeah
I think it's a 2 way thing but. Without Jigga there would def be no Kanye. If Kanye didn't exist Hov would still be the biggest rapper in the industry...just rapping on more Just Blaze beats :sas2:
He produced and co wrote some of jays biggest and best songs.

Out.

is this really true ? a shame if so.

:scusthov:

more people buying an album from a boring everyman rapper that makes microwave music that Kanye could have made in his sleep ten years ago.

Yup

Shhhhhh....J cole got formula and it's working. No need to switch it up now.
But there is a reason you will never hear a J cole record in the club. shyt I can only think off around 2-3 of em that could maybe work outta his catalog.

The Opposite Of Elliott Wilson's Mohawk
if both dropped an album at midnight on some beyonce shyt....who would sell the most?

btw. sales =/= skills

just asking a question..
Jay would sell more. Even without the million he gave away, MCHG easily outsold Yeezus. Kanye whittling down his fanbase to KTT weirdos whose allegiance is blind.

This.

I'll check on this thread in the morning, but the easiest way to answer this question is by asking what is the last successful solo Jay track?

Death of autotunes? Before that, some black album joint?
No it is not. So having an artist featured on your track = you cannot carry a song, :comeon:

Then eliminate every Kanye single with someone singing on the hook from Adam Levine to T-Pain to Rihanna

Jay Z sold 400,000 first week with the fukkin Roc Boys as a single. That is why he is so frustrating, he does not not need some of those corny singles.

Did you forget how many hit singles the BP3 had. Neither artist needs the other but they feed off each other.

We're going to sit here and say Roc Boys was the reason the album American Gangster was released? Stop that. It was a concept album that went hand in hand with a successful movie.

When did BP3 come out? How many hit singles did BP3 produce? The thread isn't about Jay z being wack. It's about Jay building an infallible brand behind Kanye's success.

BP3 had Empire State of mind which would have been Jayz biggest hit whether or not Run this town was released before it.

People listen to empire state of mind because of Jay-Z's rap? :ohhh:

Unlike the OP, I'm not a hater. I'm just telling you guys like it is. Hence why y'all are completely jumping over the history between Black album and BP3.

This isn't about Jay being wack. It's about Jay limiting his exposure, picking his appearances wisely, and eating off of the success of Kanye and Rihanna.

City of Angels :blessed:
Anyone denying that Kanye kept Jay-Z culturally relevant is lying to themselves. Jay wants to be Kanye so damn bad its disgusting. He has bitten him every step of the way. Stop hiding behind album sales. MCHG sold a lot of records (although it had the Galaxy gimmick behind that) but it made no dent in music whatsoever. No dent in the culture. It disappeared as quickly as it was released. Yeezus only sold $600k but is there one person on the planet who hasn't listened to that album? Everyone has heard it, probably multiple times. Still has people arguing about it to this day.

Jay's relevance was on the ropes before Ye hooked him up on Swagga Like Us/Run This Town and laced him with those beats on BP3, then WTT was the icing on the cake.
