If we would have drafted Luka, then LP would still have his job in The A....typical Georgia Sports....SMH

When it comes to missing out on drafting certain players, every team in the league has their share of missed opportunities. Thus why people say Hindsight is 20/20. But the Hawks especially have been in the position to grab some superstars right on their laps that everyone knew would be stars and they passed up on them to grab someone else.
  1. Ya'll GM passed up on Chris Paul to go after Marvin freakin Williams was the one that i will always laugh at.
  2. Picking Shelden Williams instead of Brandon Roy, Rudy Gay, Rajon Rondo or Kyle Lowry was also dumb but not quite as bad as the first one.
The Luka trade... I'll say... I dont agree with it but i get it. Both players were predicted to be stars and your GM saw an opportunity to grab one of the projected stars AND still be able to get a draft pick from the MAVS who were gonna suck anyway so it would be another high draft pick. You got DeAndre Hunder (whom i really like) and Cam Reddish (Who many think can be a star but i doubt it so we'll see). Jury's still out in the sense that yeah you should have picked Luka but it's not like you got robbed or anything.
They really drafted this 6’8 Center thinking he’s the next Bam, but getting no sort of PT and I Doubt ever becomes good.
Is that the guy ya'll drafted this year?

I havent seen him yet but then again i probably watched 4 hawks games this year and 2 were because they were playing my team (Heat) and i wanna say one was preseason. I must say i like this little roster especially that Hunter guy. Some of my fellow Heat fans have been looking at the possibility of getting John Collins and pairing him up with Bam Adebayo in the front court.
THinking of Bam at the 5 and Collins in a Heat uniform as a stretch 4 ...

I'm going to say it now...Don't knock me...Is Nate Mcmillan just there to finish the season? I'd like to think that it was better more youthful candidates out there...Not saying Mcmillan is a bad coach but I don't think he will help this team reach it's potential but he is a steady hand that can instill some good team chemistry....I also think the Hawks should consider making a move but the players I think that would benefit them aren't on the market yet or may never be. I'm looking for a secondary star to trae young.

Trae Young is fools gold. He will get a lot of coaches fired in his career.

The Athletic just dropped an article about the firing. I can’t post the full thing atm because I’m on my phone and it’ll exceed the character limit right now.

But to summarize, he had issues with Trae Young, and the type of shots he takes (he is quoted as saying, “he hated those shots”.....I 100% agree), which caused friction, and Cam Reddish, John Collins, and more felt like Pierce’s tough love style was too much, and turned off the locker room because they felt like they were being picked on too much by coach Pierce.

Sounds like the locker room is too young, soft, and immature to really succeed, and having only one vet who has playoff experience in Rondo was never going to change that. But I will say that they did feel like they weren’t being heard, and if someone is telling you that your current style doesn’t work for them, as a coach, you need to listen, and he didn’t

Idk if this is more on the players than pierces coaching, but everyone knows when you’re the GM or higher, you fire the head coach first to give you an additional year or two of time to keep your job

that "tough love" shyt don't work on everybody. When you see it's not working, over the course of years, you gotta switch it up. He stuck to his guns, which I can't be mad at, same way he can't be mad that he's on the outside looking in now because of it

I 100% agree, I actually added onto my post with this exact sentiment lol he was too stubborn, and didn’t hold himself accountable with some of his questionable late game decisions. You can’t blow 11 games that you had the lead heading into the 4th quarter like that..

Seven months after the pandemic had brought the Atlanta Hawks’ season to an unwelcome end, it was time for a Southern California reunion to bring them all back together again.

Coach Lloyd Pierce and all the Hawks returnees would meet for team-bonding time, with all sorts of activities planned that he hoped would aid their chemistry heading into a season they all knew would be pressure-packed. There was pick-up basketball against other NBA players, a boxing class where they squared off against one another and group dinners where topics included, among other things, the upcoming election.

But the real headliner event took place when Pierce and Trae Young met privately to discuss their upcoming third year together. At that point, anyone and everyone around the Hawks organization was well aware the relationship between these two key figures was strained.

If the Hawks were going to make the playoffs this season and contend, if they were going to avoid delays to accomplishing their shared goals, they would have to make this pairing work. Sources say they ended the trip on good terms and had a better understanding of how they each could make this work for the long term.

But in the end — after old tensions between Pierce and Young resurfaced, other players grew frustrated with Pierce’s style and owner Tony Ressler’s desperate desire to make the playoffs added so much pressure to the situation — it was not to be. Those plans Pierce and Young had hatched in Southern California officially fell short Monday when the underperforming Hawks (14-20) announced that Pierce had been relieved of his duties.

Hawks president Travis Schlenk, who had worked with Pierce a decade before while they were with the Golden State Warriors, made it clear in the team’s statement that the move was made with the hopes of righting their ship.

“We have high expectations for our team on the court and we believe by making this change now that we can have a strong second half of the season,” Schlenk said.

The 44-year-old coach, who was in the last guaranteed year of his contract and who had spoken so openly just last week in an interview with The Athletic about the likelihood that he would be let go, will be replaced by an interim coach in Nate McMillan who had been serving as Pierce’s lead assistant. And the primary reason for it all, sources say, is that several players — from Young on down — were eager to hear a new voice.

As this season progressed, the goodwill that Pierce and Young had re-established would dissipate, and the friction between them would return. It became apparent that Young and Pierce were not going to be a match that was sustainable for long-term success.

But Young was hardly alone here. Sources say player support beyond Young was dwindling at the end, with several sharing their desire for a change with management recently. Still, the difficult dynamic between Young and Pierce was an undeniable factor in Pierce’s downfall and a tone-setter of sorts for the group at large.

Cam Reddish was the MAVS pick not DeAndre Hunter.
