He was hired knowing he’d get this job
Yep, Ainge is more concerned with winning trade deals than championships.This. Dude ain’t trying to trade with anybody unless he’s bending the other team over.
If we would have drafted Luka, then LP would still have his job in The A....typical Georgia Sports....SMH
Is that the guy ya'll drafted this year? They really drafted this 6’8 Center thinking he’s the next Bam, but getting no sort of PT and I Doubt ever becomes good.
The Athletic just dropped an article about the firing. I can’t post the full thing atm because I’m on my phone and it’ll exceed the character limit right now.
But to summarize, he had issues with Trae Young, and the type of shots he takes (he is quoted as saying, “he hated those shots”.....I 100% agree), which caused friction, and Cam Reddish, John Collins, and more felt like Pierce’s tough love style was too much, and turned off the locker room because they felt like they were being picked on too much by coach Pierce.
Sounds like the locker room is too young, soft, and immature to really succeed, and having only one vet who has playoff experience in Rondo was never going to change that.
I think this is more on the players than pierces coaching, but everyone knows when you’re the GM or higher, you fire the head coach first to give you an additional year or two of time to keep your job
I 100% agree, I actually added onto my post with this exact sentiment lol he was too stubborn, and didn’t hold himself accountable with some of his questionable late game decisions. You can’t blow 11 games that you had the lead heading into the 4th quarter like that..that "tough love" shyt don't work on everybody. When you see it's not working, over the course of years, you gotta switch it up. He stuck to his guns, which I can't be mad at, same way he can't be mad that he's on the outside looking in now because of it
When it comes to missing out on drafting certain players, every team in the league has their share of missed opportunities. Thus why people say Hindsight is 20/20. But the Hawks especially have been in the position to grab some superstars right on their laps that everyone knew would be stars and they passed up on them to grab someone else.
The Luka trade... I'll say... I dont agree with it but i get it. Both players were predicted to be stars and your GM saw an opportunity to grab one of the projected stars AND still be able to get a draft pick from the MAVS who were gonna suck anyway so it would be another high draft pick. You got DeAndre Hunder (whom i really like) and Cam Reddish (Who many think can be a star but i doubt it so we'll see). Jury's still out in the sense that yeah you should have picked Luka but it's not like you got robbed or anything.
- Ya'll GM passed up on Chris Paul to go after Marvin freakin Williams was the one that i will always laugh at.
- Picking Shelden Williams instead of Brandon Roy, Rudy Gay, Rajon Rondo or Kyle Lowry was also dumb but not quite as bad as the first one.
Is that the guy ya'll drafted this year?
I havent seen him yet but then again i probably watched 4 hawks games this year and 2 were because they were playing my team (Heat) and i wanna say one was preseason. I must say i like this little roster especially that Hunter guy. Some of my fellow Heat fans have been looking at the possibility of getting John Collins and pairing him up with Bam Adebayo in the front court.
THinking of Bam at the 5 and Collins in a Heat uniform as a stretch 4 ...![]()
