Starting school and majoring in Biology..eventual goal is Physician Assistant.

Welp go ahead and get your patient hours out of the way as fast as possible. Go volunteer, get a job at a plasma center as a phlebotomist (most schools accept that as patient care experience) do something now!

I have no experience in the medical field though. So what would I need to do for the Phlebotomist?

For a plasma center nothing, they will train you at the center, any where else you need a certification, you can take a 6 week class at a community college or something to get certified. Check 5 PA schools you're interested in and see their requirements.

P.A. Here... Been doing it for a year and a half.

What specifically did u wanna get into?
Did you specialize with your PA degree? How long did it take for you to finish and what's the salary like? I'm thinking about a program and would like to specialize in orthopedic surgery. Yes I'm working in healthcare and have tons of hours with patient care.

No I didn't specialize. There are residencies for some specialties but most jobs have on the job training. My program is about 24 months and starting salary in Florida is 80,000.

That's a big plus you have some healthcare experience.

my boy is EATING :wow:

Thanks, I do well for myself. As it stands currently, I've moved on to being a controller in healthcare. I have the skill for it and most of the education. That said, I'm going back to school next year at the school that I teach part time at to finish up on my accounting classes so that I can get another BBA, this time in accounting so that I can get my CPA. Only two more stops for me on this ride, CFO then CEO. That is all that is above me now on a company position hierarchy chart.

I would advise everyone with a couple of things.

#1: Know Excel, like really know. Knowing pivots and VLookup alone isn't shyt.
#2: Work on being a better communicator. Your glass ceiling comes into view when you can't convey and break down thoughts as if you are talking to a 5th grader.
#3: Brush up on your financial acumen. If you can understand money, then you can understand the business. So understanding it and being able to explain it to others is a very potent package.
