:russ: This is exactly what happened to me. My shyt just started getting super slow. I did a factory reset and it was back to normal until all those Windows updates and service packs kicked in. I think that's what does it. The updates just get bigger and bigger over time and eventually the machine can't handle it.'

Money isn't an issue really. I can pay more for quality if it's gonna last a long time.

You could turn off windows update

What do you guys think about this:
ASUS Zenbook Prime UX31A-DH51 Ultrabook Intel Core i5 4GB 128GB SSD 13.3"
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/ultrabo...8812711231&skuId=6906246&st=6906246&cp=1&lp=1

It's 20% off at Best Buy and if I add office to it its $880. After that Windows announcement I'm a lil leery of getting a touchscreen laptop with 8.1 on it. Plus the machine is non-upgradeable, like most other UltraBooks.

Also, what kind of protection plans do yall get on your laptops? I always buy them but never use them. :patrice:

get an upgradeable latptop too. i got a 300 dollar lenovo with an i5 processor but my shyt runs for 2 days on one charge and is faster than all my friends laptops beacause of 100 bucks in upgrades.

what kinda upgrades? from my understanding laptops aren't easily upgradeable. i've tried with my last two and found out I was better off just buying a completely new one. But then again I only spent $350 both times

Its a great laptop, honest 4GB is fine esp on Win 8.1 its a very efficient OS. Dont worry about the next version of Windows you dont have to upgrade if you dont want too. I have this exact same laptop. If you have questions let me know.

4gigs is fine cause it runs a Ssd, in that same breath that's not much storage, overall it's a low mid end laptop, you paying a premium cause it's a ultra book.

I beg to differ, just because its not a gaming laptop does not make it low end. 1080p, ssd, all aluminum build, ultrathin profile and 6-7 hr battery life says its not low end. I dare you to find a comparable ultrabook for less money new.

Yep that ultra book tax is crazy these days. I got a quad core i7 Lenovo that gets about 5 hours of battery life and is fully upgradable. It's just 2 pounds heavier than that Asus :sadcam:

Besides 1080p(which IMO on a screen that size don't matter) and SSD, he payingg a premium for the rest of the features which all have to do with portability , and since it not a hybrid that touchscreen willl be barely used

For that almost $900,he could get a i5,750gig to1tb hard drive , back-lit keyboard, 720p regular laptop. Mightt not be as pretty as the Asus though

Yeah I'd much rather a nice mid level $550-$650 laptop and them $150-$200 on a Nexus tablet before I drop $850-$950 on a ultra book for that much they should least double that ssd, ram and put a i5 in it. That's why tablet sales been canablzing laptop sales

you have to research what upgrades your laptop allows. i added 4gb of ram (always make sure the brands match if u do upgrade), swapped out my hdd for a ssd, and bought a longer lasting battery. my shyt runs like a champ and the fan rarely ever turns on.
