yeah the masculine element in hip hop today is missing. maybe im reaching, but im tired of these frail druggie nikkas who will sell their soul for a contract. im tired of these suburban nerd nikkas who dont respect the history of rap and is on that new nikka shyt, like Tyler The Creator and etc.

no im not saying i want the reagan era to come back, or that i want the days of grimy gangster nikkas to come back (and they havent dissapeared in the first place, they're just not in the spotlight like they were in 1990 - 1998), but being a man with integrity needs to come back. these rap nikkas today are not only feminine in the way they dress (arguably) but with their mentalities

being masculine doesnt mean you have to be a rela thug who shoots nikkas. it just means being a stand up guy who is fighting for something. a nikka who can put his men on. nikkas who move in silence and carry themselves accordingly

alot of nikkas complaining that they want the masculinity of rap to come back are just nikkas who want the drug dealing boss/gangster element to come back in rap. like TroyAve. Which is equally as problematic because alot of drug lord/bosses are grimy nikkas with no honor who will put kids in harms way just to maintain their riches. Troy Ave of all people is a piece of shyt so while i do want the old days to come back, i dont want it to come back for the same reasons he wants it to come back

so i think a median is needed. some elements from back in the day, some elements from today

why would a man of integrity and honor want to be a rapper in the entertainment industry?

This is one of the fakest ways to make a living, look how many people drop it out because they generally cant fukk with the people involved.

who has been a masculine figure in hip hop ?

2Pac, Hov, Nas, AZ, LL Cool J, Raekwon, Biggie, etc

most of rap back in the days was masculine. im not saying it wasn't, im saying its faulty when people equate "gangster shyt" to masculinity. Hov and AZ's most masculine songs aren't about killing nikkas it was mainly the ones that was introspective or about being a man.

Like "Moment Of Clarity" by Hov when he said he forgives his father for being a deabeat, saying he understands. Thats some stand up shyt. Holding in all that hate is unhealthy

Or "Dead Presidents 1" when he says "bout to start bytching aint you, ready to start snitching aint you, i forgive your weak ass, hustling just aint you". He didnt say some corny shyt like "i kill snitches" or "snitches get stitches" he just chalked it up his understanding that most dudes are not made for the drug game. Its pretty much what the entire song is about.By rap standards thats some next level understanding, because any other rapper would have proceeded to tried to appear extra masculine by saying "ima kill the snitch" or something. Hov never does too much, he doesnt need to go overboard to prove how masculine he is, which is why hes one of the greatest rappers ever. Hes a man that puts logic above emotion, which is the most masculine behavior of all, not killing a nikka who stepped on your shoes

i halfway agree, which is why i stress that if nikkas get into the entertainment industry, they need to get into it as an executive or boss, or build their way up. another thing missing in rap today. the self made black labels. now most rappers gotta resort to signing to these culture vultures just for a 15 minute window of fame

Rap loves extremes. We went from super thugs to super fakkits. There really isn't much to discuss. As long as people will do absolutely anything to get famous and fans will accept it then there is no limit to the fukkery.

It's all gimmicks and trends that go in cycles. Kanye is not to blame for this era. What he ushered in was the regular nikka rap era not the fakkits. He is erroneously taking blame for that when in reality we saw it start with Weezy calling a grown man daddy n acting questionable... Even kissing on the lips. That's the direct precursor to this era but it's more convenient to blame Kanye :mjpls:

What are you saying we resort to guns yet it was your generation catching record bodies a year? Thots and clubs ain't nothing new, everything that is once was.

They always existed, but never were they the driving force for making Hip Hop until 12 years ago.

Both the effeminate blk man (Kanye) and the angry brute (50 Cents) are both european contrived images of blk men.
There haven't been a solid blk male image in main stream America since Malcolm, Ali, and the Panthers.

I Take that back, u Denzel is a very solid blk male image. Zel is Non effeminate, respectable, responsible, head strong, posses principles.

Stopped reading at "Fast forward to 2016, Kanye is arguably the biggest rapper in the world."

Let's not beat around the bush and call a :flabbynsick: a :flabbynsick:
Kanye is still the biggest rapper in the world, despite his last two albums being flabby.

Black music is still hyper masculine as fukk. Even from females. You ppl live in a bubble with this feminization of black men shyt. 'Fight Club' came out 2 decades ago, the entire movie is centred around emasculated white men trying to regain their masculinity. Feminization has hit the black community late as has feminism, and it hasn't even been hit like how it has hit white & asian ppl.
