They were trendy and yet represented the common man in hip hop because everyone many people normal looked like them. I wasn't talking about them being afrocentric. Kanye brought that back i.e. the everyday non-gangster approach (Kendrick, Cole etc.) and truthfully he didn't birth the hipsters. Like posters before me said Wayne fathered these hipster rappers.

:yeshrug: maybe i misunderstood

cause it seemed like u was co-signing the post whom u replied too

Rappers were on the forefront of the hipster culture in the 80s and early 90s, so it's basically just moving back to it's roots.

BTW....this was my attempt at hip-hop "journalism" and I'm kind of laughing hard at this. This is the type of article you would see on like G-Unit forums or Daveyd.com back in 2006. Entertainingly subpar and kind of ignorant yet somewhat proffessional.:ehh:

I blame Jay-Z and the entire "I get money, I'm a hustler" mentality in general for the lack of integrity in hip hop. Hov is one of the greats but I never pardoned that "Dumbed down my audience to double my dollars" line. I ain't mad at the man for getting his bread or even moving that way, but him bragging about that, with his influence, made it okay in hip hop to make corny shyt as long as it was charting. Now look where we are (And they aren't even making half as much money as they were back in the day).

Having simple lyrics has nothing to do with integrity imo & he was never the champion of ignorance so can't really pin it on him...

I'm telling you the type of people you want rappers to be, those type of people will not be interested in being rappers, trust me.

Todays Rap industry attracts a certain type of person & it reflects in the music.
