The point you're missing is tha that Bebop is the starting of "Modern" Jazz and when Jazz started getting intellectualized in a almost Classical sense. This is when Jazz became high culture/art music. There's no way anyone can deny this. Bebop is the style where everyone was a virtuoso with the long solos. Bebop laid the foundation for jazz chops vocab for ever style that came after.

..and as I already stated, the marketing terms are what made it easier to hijack Rock N Roll. You could called the white artists "Rock" or "pop' and keep the black artist under "R&B" or "Soul" even if the two artists were making similar music.

It's clear as day the black Bebop generation were on some elitist musical views and are the ones that aimed and accomplished the act of intellectualizing Jazz until it became conservatory-like/art music.

Yall know there's plenty of jazz by white artists, correct? In fact you could say most jazz artists were white in the 50s, and there were plenty in the 60s and 70s.

There were a lot but I still think black people had them in numbers its just that the white ones were promoted and the black ones stayed in small clubs

This thread is weird to me I remember a time (The funk/soul era) when Jazz was considered 'your grandparents music' and most young black people wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole

and this was pre-hip-hop blowing up shyt was wayyy outta style and you would get clowned for listening to it...hell my parents who grew up on rock n roll used to clown me for liking Jazz

During that time outside of the classic black jazz legends most of the new jazz artists were white...unlike rock whites didn't have to hijack it...almost two generations of black people basically was on some 'fukk jazz' shyt

Hip-Hop actually helped to make Jazz cool again with young black kids in the early 90s

Besides the Atlanta and NO Jazz Festivals, most jazz concerts are mostly white. Audience and performers. They haven't taken it over, but they are definitely a really big presence. Im glad there are finally some new younger blacks that are making great jazz influenced albums like Kamasi and Robert Glasper.
