That thread turn on Boston
:mjlol::mjlol::deadrose::deadrose:
We have jokes about Florida but people do have a deep rooted hate of Boston, for real. Statistics and this thread doesn’t lie. Boston never will and doesn’t need to be representing. Not at all. The entire state is dirt. Look at the track record of Boston or State of Massachusetts posters - getting run off. Disrespectfully.

Some people from Connecticut sound a lil NYish to me.
(yes im from the south. Just saying :yeshrug:
Your ear is not trained to hear the difference because you’re not from this area. That’s not to put you down but you have to live up here to recognize the nuance. I can definitely tell a difference between a New York, Connecticut and New Jersey accent. Whereas most people from other regions think all accents in the tri-state area sound the same. Most of us in NYC can tell the difference between someone from Yonkers, upstate, Buffalo, Syracuse etc v the boroughs. Nuance is the key word.

Then also taking into consideration those of us who have family members of other ethnicities - you’ll pick up on that immersive/hybrid accent from whoever has the most influence (parent, babysitter, aunt, cousin, etc).
You can hear the difference - no similarity to me. Accent Examples.

PSA- if you ever see cars like this^^^ driving through any block in Philly, New York, Connecticut, Delaware. Off top- that’s a kill car. Anyone driving one of these has horrible intentions - Chrysler 300. The official drive by/spin the block vehicle of the northeast. Even worse if it’s fully tinted- the inhabitants will try to murder you. if you see it- duck or run. There’s a reason why this piece of shyt tin refrigerator on wheels looks like a hearse. Seen the pattern too many times. Dead serious.

Because dumbass out of towners have this ignorant stereotypical concept of a New York accent. Not including the fact that people from different boroughs, backgrounds, ethnicities and educational backgrounds can cause the accent to vary. Depending on who your family or associations are, influences how we talk as well. There’s a lot that factors in. Queens is not going to sound like Brooklyn, Manhattan has a different dialect from The Bronx. Queens NY had the label of talking more “proper”. Staten Island is all those Italian/mafioso nasally accents from tv that people use as reference for whatever reason - think all of New York is like that bc they don’t live life off the computer. Black people don’t talk like Italians. Out of towners Watching a “hood vlog” and think we’re all on that “yo ayo dun” shyt - male and female.

The actors/actresses definitely use vocal coaches, dramatic training and receive training to adjust their accents altogether so that’s not a good example to use anyway. Why would you think entertainers are representative of people, duh- that’s a false comparison.
This doesn't really answer the question - but I think this does an important job of differentiating.

The answer is: the same reason why some Southerners don't have their specific regional accent - only some people pick it up, and stick to it.
It tends to exaggerate around others with the accent, and there are physiological/psychological reasons behind it.

But if you go to Bessmer, AL or Madison, WI - you'll find that only a portion of the people there have accents, even if their parents and friends have it. I have friends with Appalachian accents even though their families don't. Its a pretty varied factor.

I will say that there's also a class element to it (alongside the educational element) that is important, and its reflected internationally.

Waaaay too many factors. On a given day if I’m just chilling, I’m sure you’ll hear bits of southern, West Indian , Latino and Yiddish.

With those variables, we are all over the place as far as sound. A sister from LA telling me that we have heavy tongues is the most I’ve heard as having a stereotypical accent.

Didn’t I ask you the other day to never ever quote me again on this site? Didn’t I warn you in the most direct way possible that you should refrain from tagging or quoting me?? At all. What part of that did you not comprehend?

I’ve never been to Texas before; never really heard anyone from Texas speak in a one on one type convo- admittedly; I wouldn’t know the difference. No family in the south coming up so never had a reason to visit that region. The furthest that I’ve been south as an adult Is North Carolina. Been to Georgia, and Florida once as a baby though. But that’s about it. Been an northeast dweller about 99.5% of my life. Is Maryland considered Northeast? (Been to LA one time as a teenager, had a bad experience and never went back).
