Any latino who denys their African ancestory is just lost, That goes for the white complexioned hispanics as well.

Of course they did.

Brazil has a higher population of Black people than any other country in the Western Hemisphere.

Too bad that when people think of Brazilians, they don't think of Black people.

Well u can blame the media for rarely showing Black Brazilians unless its a carnival dancer. Spike Lee got a documentary on Brazil coming out soon highlighting their rise up to the World Cup next year. He's interviewing a few black Brazilians.

In America tho Black = Black American... so I've been told "oh ur not black ur african"..to which I reply "and you are AFRICAN American" :stopitslime:....America still has to work its race identity issues

oh and just because I dont sound like BLACKSON doesnt mean I dont have an African accent :aicmon:

That's because they are almost more outright racist than the US.

Brazilian mode Emanuela De Paula talked about how rare it is to see a Black girl on the runways in Brazil.

Props to Spike Lee though

True I've been told that I was African and not black. Even some black americans will say there aren't African american just black.
Just because you accept being black doesn't mean you accept your African ancestry.

That's weird because i hear them all the time. Some of them my friends.

They say "i'm not black. I'm jamaican" as if to say "i'm not black american". Which is what i think Big Papi meant when he said that. This became clear to me once when i was talking to this black american girls and she said "but that dont apply to you because you're not black. Aren't you from a different country?"

See, many black americans are referring to themselves and themselves ONLY when they utter the word "black". They take it as if they, and only THEY are the ONLY blacks and that others are just mere wannabes who share the skin color.

And by the way Haiti was a spanish and then french colony but in no way were we ever french. Jamaicans were at some point British citizens because after slavery was abolished the blacks slaves were integrated into the British Colony population. Haitians went from slave to Haitian because we became independent before slavery ended. Thus why we are different then Martinique and Guadeloupe who's black population became french citizens once slavery was abolished.

Know your caribbean history, brethren.

Breh I already know that. My comments earlier were a joke. Yall Frenchie Haitians are so sensitive.

"I'm Not Black, I'm Dominican!"

that's a legal strategy to me its how I win my traffic tickets in court and pick your side in this argument cause I remember you saying that Haitians weren't black.

so please tell me since according to you Haitians ain't Black, And Dominicans ain't black why do they keep putting Black on the ticket every time I get pulled over :youngsabo:

Not about being sensitive. It's about setting the records straight. Haitians have been stigmatized by all and we've carried that scarlett letter long enough now. YOu take it as a joke because you're a caribbean brethren but typical foreigners dont know any better and will believe anything you say

I'm pretty new to these forum but lurk sometimes, and it seems are large part of yall are african americans.

How do yall feel about latinos who clearly have black in them saying they are just black?
Reason I ask is just cause I'm half latino but my latino side is black, if you didn't speak to my pops and heard his strong accent you'd think he was a black man not from latin america.

I always consider myself latino and most people just assume I am but I still know I have black in me and when I tell people I have black in me they're like ' :beli:, you aint black you're latino' , yea that's true but also my ancestors were slaves in south america .. I just don't like to deny what I am

Anyways, how yall feel about this ?

LOL @ You thinking most of the people on this forum are African American.

This forum is majority white & West Indies than anything.

Wouldn't be surprised if he said that.

My mom puts Latino and Black on a census. But she does not like being called Black at all lol.
She knows she is black and her ancestors are from Africa tho right?

It's a double edged sword.

Some afro latinos deny being black .("*im not black im *insert latin country :smh:*"

Some black people in america deny them claiming black (":mindblown: You're not black you're *Insert latin country*".

I think the problem is the word latino. Ima just speak for myself but when i first came to nyc it made no sense to be black and latino. It was like being a blood and a crip, u had to pick a side lol.

There is no side pick. Latino just has to do with a language that you speak.

Latino/hispanic classification is dumb to begin with. Why isn't there an anglo classification? :rudy:
