Why do you think everytime someone talks about latins, they usually refer to puerto ricans, and associate them with other blacks?. It's because that is the look most Americans associate with being Latin. The black/mixed, puerto rican look.

Afro latinos are far too c00nish for my liking. Sometimes I think of all the black people in the diaspora, African-Americans are probably the only ones to openly defy the western concept of beauty and truly love themselves. The others have been thoroughly brainwashed.

AAs go further in the "loving themselves" department because of having been detached for so long from Africa and having had basically their whole culture taken from them. So the whole "I'm Black and I'm Proud" is as much to defy Western culture as it is to regain some sense of self. On the other hand, a lot of people from the African diaspora in Europe for example don't go as far as AAs because they don't feel the need to prove to themselves/others where they come from/who they are and are more comfortable with their identity, as most have only been in Europe for two generations and still have strong and regular links with whatever country they originally come from.

There is no side pick. Latino just has to do with a language that you speak.

Latino/hispanic classification is dumb to begin with. Why isn't there an anglo classification?

"Latino" comes from latin-based languages: French, Spanish and Portuguese. It's just a convenient (and eurocentred) way to qualify part of a continent. "Anglo" wouldn't make sense because there would only be English in the "Anglo" group, English being part of the Germanic language group. If anything you could've called Northern America "English America" (with the exception of Québec and some other areas of Canada), but obviously that wasn't an option.

That's why I stated they use certain terms!.

There are black latinos in America, but they assume a latino is black. They are just using trickery with their words. Instead of speaking english, like a black american they call you black latin, due to you speaking spanish. If anything, there is no such things as white latinos, just like the article stated. I think Latins know this, inherently, and why they disassociate themselves quickly with black in a lot of instances. IT all comes down to class, and peoples perception of race, and class. When you see a white person speaking spanish, you don't assume they come from a lower class country. When you see a colored speaking spanish, you assume that is where they come from. You don't think they are an American who speaks spanish, because colored is associated with poverty, and ignorance. It's all racial, and trickery of words. That is why they let you call yourself African-American, and not just an American. It's trickery.

Of course this is who you ask. An uneducated white person thinks this way, but an uneducated black person thinks differently.

Here's the difference in my opinion...in the U.S. blacks put race before nationality, and in the carribean/latin america,pretty much anywhere else people claim their nationality first. I don't see why this is such a big deal to black people here.

How can an African-American be black, but she thinks race isn't a color, and rhiana is bajan, and Akon is African when they ALL have brown skin. Plus, Africa is a continent not a country. No disrespect, but it sounds like your moms looks down on American blacks, and finding excuses to disassociate herself. The islands need some serious education to happen.
