Here’s the thoughts of Greg Biggins, a recruiting analyst for
Scout.com on how USC’s Signing Day will finish.
“USC’s class is in a pretty unique spot right now as we normally see them hovering around the top 10 and they finished with our No. 1 overall class nationally a year ago. This year, they have just 13 commitments and need to close strong to crack the top 15-20. That’s very possible as they’re in hunt for 6-7 pretty big time kids so definitely worth watching.”
“They look good to land LB Poly (Calif.) athlete Jack Jones, which would be their 3rd straight 5-star prospect from Poly joining Iman Marshall and Juju Smith. It would also be their 4th 5-star prospect this year, which is tops in the Pac-12. Shows that while the class isn’t big numbers wise, it’s still very high on quality.
“I think USC also looks good for Phoenix (Ariz.) Brophy Prep DE Connor Murphy. Michigan has been leading for months as Jim Harbaugh coached Murphy’s brother Trent at Stanford but the Trojans have made a strong late run and look good to land him. They’re also battling with Florida State, Ole Miss and Tennessee for maybe the top defensive player in the JUCO ranks, Jonathan Kongbo. He had a great visit to SC but both Tennessee and FSU are feeling confident here as well.
“As they always do, USC put in a lot of work in Florida and is hoping to land Miami (Fla.) Central safety Jamel Cook and Miami (Fla.) Senior athlete Keyshawn Young. Cook is a Florida State commit but just visited USC along with Young this past weekend. The two are close and would like to play together in college so USC isa definite possibility here.”
