Record sales don't matter.

If you are going to rate artists, then record sales DEFINITELY MATTER...Because it is an object criteria to determine which artist is reaching the fans...

Nas has a loyal base of fans who list him as their favorite rapper. Nobody says Pac is their favorite and never will - minus a few people. There are people like me that have Pac on a top 6 list, but not with him in the top 2.

I am tempted to assert that you are delusional...Pac has a bigger loyal fan base than Nas...

There are Pac fans who don't even listen to other rappers, me and my brothers were "Pac and only Pac" fans for long time, and we there are many more Pac fans who share that attitude, something that have never witnessed with Nas...

Pac has been "Number 1" on MTV, BET and etc lists of greatest rappers ever...

Pac's legendary status in entertainment is carved in stone...

Even after he died, album for album, Pac has sold more records than Nas...How can you insinuate that Pac doesn't have a loyal fan base, when he has sold multi-platinum records even years after his death...?

This is fact based on album sales...Not opinion

I guess you can say Tupac's persona and certain songs were more inspirational. But Nas is the better rapper... and fan or Not, Nas has had that conscious sh1t on his back forever. There are better people, who are more detailed and accurate with the conscious sh1t - but Nas keep that going as a movement. Tupac talked about the sh1t everyone knew was happening, Nas spoke about the reasons behind it.

hahaha..."Do you listen to the music or do you just skim through it?" Pac is THE BLUEPRINT of conscious rap...

Nas was a punchline and storytelling rapper until he listened to 2Pacalypse, and understood what Pac was all about...Nas stated it himself on "we will survive" (I am...)...

Listen to "Illmatic" and "It was written" there is barely any social commentary...Nas started becoming more conscious with "I am..."

Listen to 2Pacalypse, that ENTIRE album is Pac's thesis on what was wrong with America in those times...

Pac says THUGLIFE stands for "T.he H.ate U G.ive L.ittle I.nfants F.ucks E.veryone, also, he explains that for him N.I.G.G.A. stands for "N.ever I.gnorant G.etting G.oals A.ccomplished"...

Pac is the most successful conscious rapper that ever touched the microphone...

See, I dont see anything profound about these lyrics or the Pac lyrics I posted (minus a line or two in the Pac verse). THAT is the point... neither was that clever... both used a little imagery here and there...

But a nicca like Lupe writes circles around either one of those niccaz. Pac's redeeming factor is that somehow that nicca made music that niccaz simply relate to, we feel that shyt. I dont know of a real nicca that aint feelin Pac. only fake coward internet dudes like @god shamgod that would get boddied the instant he stepped out his front door.

lol, ok.. If I'm chilled out though I can't even do pac's less hype songs. Pac is for that hype sh1t... he has passion. Nas has more material to make you think as opposed to making you simply upset.

And Lupe isn't better than either lyrically. His BEST lyrical moments might have been better because u have to rewind 20 times to get everything out of it...... But he doesn't do that sh1t all the time.. and he comes off like the n1gga you ^ described at the end of ur post just now. I'm sure Lupe would get smacked to the ground and have those fake dreads pissed in , if he ever encountered a real nicca, other than the one that funded the start of his career - the career he just threw in the toilet with lasers.

I understand all that. I'm a fan of tupac.. but I'm not going to pretend all that ignorant sh1t was conscious. He did have the conscious songs, and I like those.. but Nas was still better. There's a difference between talking about wanting to shot some cop and my moms on drugs..... And speaking about how drugs got here and the social-economic effects of drug laws and prison industrial complex. I do believe as a person Tupac was on that level. In interviews he goes there. Musically, he wasn't on that sh1t too much.

And if you were a "I ONLY listen to tupac" "I only have sex while listening to Tupac, I only eat listening to Death row" type of person, then I can't even continue this conversation.

nah... If you can sit here and say Pac or naS is better than Lupe lyrically then I simply have no idea what you base lyricism on... it cant be anything thats demonstrable because Lu bodies both them niccaz with the pen quite easily actually...

Lyricism is "Failure" "Theme Music To A Driveby" "Grammy Family Freestyle" "D'Evils" "Hovi Baby" Andre 3000 verse on "Royal Flush"...

lyricism is NOT naS talkin about unfolding scrolls or Pac hangin out in penitentiaries and cemeteries...

You don't listen to Pac's music and/or you like your hip hop a certain way, and Pac did not fit in your way...

That's cool that you think Nas is better than Pac...

This topic cannot even be argued, unless we agree on some OBJECTIVE criteria to compare the two...

Without any objectivity, we will be going in circles...

:salute:

There r so many songs that people still don't appreciate from Nas... at least if they aren't paying attention.
Nas made a reggae/rap fusion album, that's how versatile he is yet he gets little to no credit for being versatile.

so is eminem better than pac.. em strengths are what you posted.. or you going to go the double standard route :yeshrug:

NO i dont think EM is better than the GOAT TUPAC SHAKUR

Never did I say that being complex made Nas a better lyricist. I posted that Nas was more complex, because it's where they differ as lyricist. My overall point was that Nas and Pac were lyrically equal with the difference being that Nas was more complex technically.

Without any objectivity, we will be going in circles...

tupac was a great artist.. I say equal as far as song writing.. Nas is also good.

Tupac was better at dancing (lol, it's a part of hip hop i guess), wearing face jewelry, acting, and having commercial success.

If you believe that Lupe is lyrically better than Pac or Nas that's your opinion, but that doesn't mean you have to throw dirt on Pac's and Nas's body work...

Lupe isn't even respected by his peers (this generation of rappers)...

Pac aint even close bruh he was basic as fukk

Since when does basic make him lesser as a rapper. One could make the argument that Pac does more with less. It also goes back to the point that @ROFL made in response to my post. If being complex makes Nas better, then it also makes a lyricist like Em better.

The bars you chose to post from "Where Ya'll At" are typical floss/braggadocio bars. The rhyme schemes are nice and there's some slick imagery, but it goes back to the point of just because it's more complex doesn't mean it's better.
