@mobbinfms

yeah I mean I was barely getting into hip-hop by the time this beef had come to life so I wasn't living it at the time

Creativity is great for sure, but look at what the best disses did. My top 2:

1. No Vaseline - led to NWA's break-up and a vicious attack on all existing members and Jerry Heller
2. The Bridge is Over - R.I.P. MC Shan and put The Bronx on the map as a place to be respected and taken notice of

I mean Supa Ugly is hardly remembered anyway but that 3rd verse even made me feel sorry for Nas lol. It's whatever. I think at the end of it all, Jay won. And remember in Ether vs. Takeover, Ether was a response diss so it should have been even more devastating but it wasn't. It was just a load of childish insults.

Jay lost the battle. I've never seen a battle that was historically lost try to get changed by fans down the line as much as the nas/jay battle.

see the problem is that Nas fans are gonna argue one thing and Jay another.

Who won the war?

"the war" was created by jay-z fans. there was never a war. jay lost the battle, admitted defeat but claimed to gain wisdom, dropped the black album, "retired" :duck:, then officially squashed it and came back.

the war is the grand scheme of things post the battle, look where Jay is, look where Nas is. Jay being president of Def Jam and having Nas working for him as well at one stage. it's not really a contest.

even diss battle wise, i don't think Ether was better than Takeover, but I don't care to argue that anyway.

that doesn't make sense. jay was more popular than nas when it first officially started at summer jam. this is more deflecting from the battle

Hip hop started in the Bronx. KRS didn't put the Bronx on the map.

How they end up doing in life has nothing to do with the battle. The battle was a few records. Jay had the upper hand early with Takeover. People thought Nas was done. Takeover was vicious. Ether, essentially, ended the battle. People are going to have different opinions about it of course, but the overwhelming consensus opinion at the time was that Nas won decisively.

right, and nothing Nas did could send Jay on a downward spiral, thus rendering his diss ineffective.

It's not like Jay ruined Nas either, but what he said was totally true. Nas has been on a very average path since Illmatic (well IWW really).

I am getting confused af today my bad. I thought the Juice Crew were all Queens members tbh and then I remembered his beef was only really with MC Shan not the whole crew. Just ignore that lol

Gay-Z, Cocafella, dikk-sucking lips...wtf

What did Nas say on Ether that really hit home?

Cube dissed Dre on No Vaseline and Dre went on to make the Chronic and Doggystyle. Does that make No Vaseline ineffective?

well it would have been more effective had Dre been shut out by the diss too but no you have a point. I think what it did to the group was more telling than individual members. The fact that NWA thought they could survive without him.

So so much, on so many levels. Jay fans love to focus on the schoolyard shyt and ignore the real gut punches in there. There's a reason Jay cried on the radio.

What u think u gettin girls now cuz of your looks? Negro please, u no mustache having, with whiskers like a rat, compared to beans u wack. AND YOUR MAN STABBED UN AND MADE YOU TAKE THE BLAME.
