How is Drop a Gem not the G.O.A.T. diss track?

If you completely remove the artistry from it then yes. It's better to kill your opponents friend and rap about it - then to spit some creative :duck:

Artistry in normal songs yes. Which is why I enjoy Rick Ross music, Biggie etc

But diss songs are personal. Either you drop real shyt or mock the other person. You would really enjoy endless metaphors of gunplay...creative ways to kill people etc when it's :duck:??

A ten thousand dollar bounty put on my neck
I hope you didn't pay them cause they didn't have no success = facts

Go dig your partner up nikka, bet he can't say shyt :wow:

I hit a birthday party fresh, you and ya homeboy Tip
I know y'all seen me over there with that black fo' fifth = facts

But I never went platinum, do you catch my drift

So you get the point...when it comes to disses it aint about artistry.

Prodigy never did ballet as far as I know. The photograph was him in a Michael Jackson outfit as a kid.

Jay said it was a ballerina and everyone just went with it although it was clearly a lie :mjlol:
There was this though...

Three kids clearly not comfortable with what they are wearing...homey on the right feels right at home though :mjlol:

He didn't give a fukk about it either. Probably would have posted the pic himself after Mike died.

MissInfo.tv » Prodigy gets the last laugh…yeah, he rocked an MJ jacket. What?

The debut of Drop A Gem was on Future Flavers.....Pete Rock and Marly Marl kept stressing to get your tapedecks ready. Pac was still alive that Sunday night. Its was maybe a few weeks later when he got killed.

Too me it was the first shot. It felt like there was more to come but Pac died soon after and things just changed. The same with Biggie....The mood in the air at the time was that something bigger was brewing from everyone Pac called out on Hit Em Up but Pac dying changed things around.

But Mobb Deep putting it on the album, after the fact was cold as fukk :whew:

It was as if they were saying 'fukk you' to his death.

Exactly. He was about to start taking some serious L's because of pretty much putting the East Coast on blast. His death stopped that from happening.

What gave u this impression? Do u really think nas only had 1 hot album up to that point? Or that Chris and Neef were running rap? Or that The World is yours wasn't just as hot a song as dead presidents?

Ether had just as much "facts" as takeover, and the actual facts it did have cut way deeper. The only real dart that way jay had was Carmen and he didn't come out and use it fully on takeover.

Jay thought nas was done after nastradamus, and was proven to be very very wrong. Exposed as the one who wanted to work with Nas and kept getting snubbed, coming up off foxy before he could stand on his own in the game, called out for everything from Hawaiian Sophie to using big's rhymes to make himself look bigger, and got straight clowned until he cried and even his own crew had to admit he got got.

Well I don't think IWW is bad like Jay is implying it is, but Nas has a very mediocre discography and yeah I'll stand by that. Jay's criticisms of his flow is on point, never switches it up. The idea of Illmatic being devised from his house window or whatever. That's true. The whole Oochie Wally situation.

:dame:

I stand corrected. Never seen that....well damn

:mjcry:

Not gonna change which diss I prefer, but look at the repercussions. Dafuq is he crying for lol...

Peep game.

Jay fukked up when he dropped "Supa Ugly". It shifted focus away from "Takeover". Since it was the newer record Hot 97 held a poll, "Ether" vs "Supa Ugly".

"Ether" won, which fukked Jay all up. Because his city had voted against him. You can't talk that KONY shyt when your city voted you lost.

Shortly after that Jay went on the radio sounding defeated.

To add insult to injury, shortly after that Nas went on Power 105 talking big shyt.

"The day after Hot 97 played all Jay songs....like he died".

The full interview is even worse. It's the exact opposite of the Jay one.

It was just....bad. All around bad for Jay-Z. Outside of "Take Over", Jay and Rocafella completely dropped the ball during that beef.

Idk I think I'm looking at it from the wrong perspective though, as I said I wasn't immersed in the beef when it was really happening to know all the ins and outs. But I look at everything when it's all said and done, and the fact I think Jay is just flat out better than Nas and that reflects in his body of work, that's what sways the decision in his favour for me.

And it's not like I'm a Jay stan. I started off preferring Nas way more (granted, his earlier works) when I was in my "lyrical miracle reel raps" stage. Then I gave Jay a chance and never looked back.

It's one of the greatest. It's slept on because Pac isn't mentioned by na,e but unless you're an idiot (or Peter Rosenberg...who kind of is) then you should know who it's about right away.

well it would have been more effective had Dre been shut out by the diss too but no you have a point. I think what it did to the group was more telling than individual members. The fact that NWA thought they could survive without him.
They did survive without him. NWAs second album was massively successful and was really good.

Drop a Gem is underrated in my opinion but it's not GOAT and Long Kiss Goodnight is miles better.

NWA dissed Cube on the 100 Miles & Running EP which came out in 1990. Cube left in 89. The second NWA album came out in 1991 - before DC.

Bro nobody today could tell that it's a diss record to Pac. Stop it

Half the people on this board wasn't even into rap when the song came out. Some of them wasn't even born yet.

Who cares what they don't know? Yeah, let's determine whether or not something is well known by quizzing the least knowledgeable people on the subject.:francis:

Like I said, it was well known to be a diss record towards Pac when it came out. Which is the context of the song, 1996. Not 2015. I don't care about 20 years later.
