I agree. from 1996 to 1999 he was a nobody.. 2001 he got Ethered.. 2003 he got with Beyonce.. then he bought 0.1% of the Nets, gentrified Brooklyn, ran Def Jam to the ground, and made a couple 3 to 4 mic albums (Black Album, American Gangster).:yeshrug:

I dont see it.

In 96 he dropped what a large majority of rap fans consider a classic, 97 he dropped a very solid album, by 98 he was one of the biggest rappers in the world I'd say 2nd behind only DMX (sold 5 million on Vol. 2), in 99 he headlined the Hard Knock Life Tour which was the first major rap tour and dropped Vol. 3 which sold another 3 million albums.

So from 96-99 he sold just about 10 million albums, headlined the first major rap tour (with Redman, Method Man, and DMX opening for him), dropped a classic album (most rap fans consider one of the best in rap history), and put out 2 movies in Streets is Watching and Backstage, along with soundtracks to both of those movies that were both very successful albums and brought together a lot of great artists and helped put them on or make them bigger. How is that anywhere near being a nobody?

In 2000 he put out The Dynasty which was supposed to be a group album, but they decided it would sell better as a Jay-Z album and it helped launch a couple careers in the process, then in 01 he comes back and drops another certified classic and another one of the greatest albums in rap history while also taking part in the greatest beef in rap history. Just before releasing The Blueprint he brought Michael Jackson out at Summer Jam shortly after doing a song with him, at the same concert he dissed Nas and Mobb Deep another one of the great moments in rap history.

Somehow buying a percentage of an NBA team is now being labelled a loss? I don't care how small it was, just that move alone makes him a legend. Gentrifying Brooklyn hurt some people but it also helped a lot of people, my boy's family (along with many others) from Brooklyn sold their house at the time for like $850,000 that they bought for peanuts compared to that years earlier. Also if you're trying to give Jay all the credit for gentrifying Brooklyn you're discrediting this whole thread right there. If any one person could accomplish that they'd easily be one of the most powerful people in the world.

At the same time you're trying to discredit dropping a couple 3-4 mic albums as nothing, when most rappers would be lucky to drop one 3 or 4 mic in their career when he just casually dropped a couple like it was nothing.

None of your points are even close to being accurate or objective.

Stop...this is hate

Jay aint influence me or nikkas I know to do shyt...Cam'ron had more influence over me and my nikkas than Jay :yeshrug:

I don't follow corny NY nikkas

I'm not from NY...I don't do what they do, I don't care what they do. So all that hype about what Jay Z has done is nothing to me because nikkas don't/didn't fukk with Jay how you internet nikkas claim where I'm from.

We had our own influences and Jay Z ain't one, Bay nikkas never fukked with Jay like that.

jay doesn't have a top of the line classic album, but he's still a legend.

i consider too short a legend, so jay is definitely one.
