So in seeing the rumors of hiring coach Phil as head of basketball operations with total control here is my issue. due to the Knicks trading half of there draft picks and being in cap hell with an aging superstar I don't see them actually becoming better anytime soon.

I think they should of considered trading Melo to where he wanted to go or try to work a sign and trade if that's still allowed.

But than even after that you still have contracts like Tyson chandler who may not be as movable. And I doubt too many teams will want the expiring of Amare due to the insurance and the fact that if they needed to clearly 2-3 players for cap space they probably already have.

in other words how would you fix the Knicks I'd go straight fire sale status in Newyork it's the only way to rebuild this team correctly and I know Knicks fans aren't going for that.

As a Knicks fan I agree that a fire sell is what we need. First see if Melo would go for a sign and trade this offseason so we can at least get some assets back for him and he still gets that max contract. The rest of our roster would be hard as hell to move besides Timmy Jr and Shump. Nobody else wants any of the players we have except for maybe Tyson but even he has regressed.

CONTRACTION!

Destroy the franchise and erase all its mentions and records from history. Create a new expansion team for Seattle or force the Clippers to move to Seattle.:troll:

But seriously breh, why do people feel part of the NBA's well being depends on the Knicks doing well? Treat that shyt mile any other franchise: You'll go through some ups and downs. DEAL WITH IT. No need to help them through the NBA's welfare system by mysteriously getting them no first pick like it is rumored to have happened in 1984 when the miraculously got the #1 pick to get Ewing. I'm tired of people pushing for the legacy teams to do well. It's every team for themselves. No need to socialize the system

Knicks have their 2015 pick so at least they can get a good young player after a losing season. After 2015, Chandler, Amare, and Bargnani are off the books and they finally have space to start over and get some talent.

If they are able to keep Melo, he can help attract free agents. If they lose Melo, sign and trade so he can get his 5 year max with another team and Knicks can get some picks and/or young talent.

If everything goes perfect, they can have a good team again after next year.

That's a no brainer.

Being in the world's largest and most populous city and where basketball (or all indoor sports ) is worshipped, you can't NOT be one of the most if not the most lucrative franchises.
Football being so big in the southern United States, no matter how bad shyt gets for University of Alabama, Texas, and GA, they will still eat good even if they always lose. Winning doesn't always bring profits. Florida/Miami Marlins have only been around like 20 years, barely made money yet have won 2 championships.

The fact of the matter is this: The NBA's collective bargaining system punishes teams that make bad decision after bad decision. This isn't the NFL where you can CHEAT and just cut players to make room if you can afford it. You take on a contract and it ends up being bad, you then have to live with it and pay the price. I wish the NFL would do this too, BTW. Too many teams cheating

They only way the Knicks rebound is have a fire sale and build the team up. Over the years they never built the team up. I hear everybody banging on Melo but JR Smith and Amare has not been performing good. They need to trade Tyson while he still has value; trade Melo before he walks and they get nothing in return; and I don't know what to do with Amare because of the remaining years on his contract.

Its kinda the same thing with the Lakers. At some point you need to rebuild the team. All teams goes through this but some are in denial.

They need to bring the old band back together. Get baron davis and kidd to sign for the vet minimum. They could also work with lenny cooke in the offseason and bring him along slowly like the heatles are doing with oden. And maybe draft chazz williams from umass
