Thanks for the insight. If I do get the transfer I plan on renting for a few months before buying anything to really understand where I would buy a house at. I did hear about Blythewood but didn't get a chance to do some drive by neighborhood watching. I think I missed out on checking Vista (didn't know about it) and 5point which I remember someone telling me is by the water or something. I may have to check back in again...

.There’s not much to Columbia. Like someone mentioned, it’s a college/military small city. The places to hangout are 5 pts and the Vista. 5 pts is mostly where the college age kids go and the Vista is a mixture college and older crowds.
There are plenty of black people around. You have Allen and Benedict colleges not too far. The black club scene is mostly dead but you have stripper type establishments like Vault and some others that I can’t think of right now around. Also there are a few sports bars, clubs and, lounges around like Seven, R&B Bar and Grill, and Room Service (RS has Renni Wednesdays where Renni Rucci comes out every 1st Wednesday of the month) and Chayz (pretty decent lounge for the older crowd). But not any high life chic urban spots like you’d find in Charlotte or Atlanta.
The Northeast part of Richland (the county Columbia is in) and going into Blythewood is where a lot of the growth is. You can find a nice house in one of the residential communities or buy you a plot of land in those areas if that’s more your style.
The areas I mentioned are maybe about 20 mins out from downtown Columbia. That’s one good thing about Columbia is that it doesn’t take too much time getting around locally. Plus it doesn’t take much time to get to more interesting destinations for a weekend getaway or day trip. You can get to Charlotte, Atlanta, Myrtle Beach and Charleston in a few hours at the most.
Not that I’m aware of. Mostly Mexicans in South Carolina. I’ve met/know Colombians tho.Cool cool.
Is there a decent Hispanic community? The wife is Dominican it's not overly important to her but would be nice to know.

Might as well send breh to Greenville. Thanks for the input. My old coworker transfered there and stayed there for about a year before coming back up to NJ. He didn't want to sway my opinion because he moved down there alone and had to travel back to NJ during the weekends to see his kid and family. He realized he made a mistake doing the move because he moved alone and the plan for his girl and kid coming down didn't happen. He did mention that everyone goes to church there and that's where friends are made apparently. It was too quite for him but he ended up moving his family to Miami and living it up down there.my man summed up it pretty good. depends on what you are into and your age. it is a college and military place for sure. i been here for 18 years now, from upsate new york. i like it here, weather is hot, but usually you can find something to do. i like sports and music, so i go to usc gamecock games- basketball, football etc. charlotte is a hour north, so i go to panther and hornets game also.
they have a lot of music acts and concerts come through columbia, so i'm always at those also. comedy acts etc. one thing about columbia is you can get to any side of town within 20 minutes.
like this weekend, they had some juneteeth festival downtown at the columbia fireflies minor league ballpark and tomorrow they got a parade on main street and a museum exhibit thats free.
it's whatever you make of it, i enjoy the city, i'm always finding different places to eat, i got a woman i been with for a while so i'm not chasing nothing but man i always come across something nice when i be out and about. columbia has come a long way since i been here. it's plenty of black people here. if you coming with a steady job making decent money you should be good.
Columbia ain't Miami and nowhere is. But anywhere you go, it's what you make of it. It's a lot of cool people down here. Thanks for the input. Why you even trying to do that to that man
Anyone from down there can tell me what it's like living there? Theres a chance i may move down there for work. I went a few weeks ago and stayed down there for a few days on Main Street thinking it would be more to do but found quickly that there isn't much of anything. Bars are cool but their main street is short and everything seemed to close early. Not sure if there were more lively areas that I missed. I would say that I felt safe walking down the street at 2am and the people were nice. Not that many black folks I saw which is a negative to me. Houses seems nice but noticed most are HOAs which is not something I was ever wanting to sign up for. Need some thoughts from the folks that actually lives down there or use to.
I agree with this and in general any black southern city. It's not about jiggin and jivin It's about raising your family and kids in a black middle to upper middle class neighborhood.Columbia is a nice middle class/upper middle class Black family town. Nothing is popping there. Most people live in the suburbs/exurbs. If you young and trying to jig its not for you.
. And there’s a big ass army base as well so those two probably influence the “feel” of the city the most. I lived in Charleston for 4 years, which is like 2 hours away on the coast. Charlotte is like an hour north. Definitely a lot of black of people (of varying socioeconomic status) if that’s something that’s important to you. @TheHonorableOmarSharifIt’s definitely a college town that also happens to serve as the state capital.
