whats "real" about all the abstractions using a controller? I was crawling around on the floor to avoid turrets. that felt "real"
I mean walking. Have you played Astral Domine yet? The controls suck, but it has "real" movement forward and not "teleport jumps" (that's just one example on the Vive). I like the feeling of actually moving forward. That's what I mean. It seems the Vive games use the "teleport jump" way too much. I know they were probably told to do that, to avoid motion sickness, but I want the experience of actually moving forward in a game. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is another example of actually "walking." Once you experience "real" walking in VR, I think you'll know what I'm talking about

well I think it's understandable why they don't want to promote a consumer product that makes people sick

but beyond that I think it's about making the VR experience more than just a 3D display with head tracking. the challenge is coming up with games that break the mold of a typical control scheme

the teleporting doesn't bother me. it was basically a puzzle mechanic in Portal Stories VR

Have you got the Rift games to work on your Vive? If so, shoot me a link. I'm curious of the difference

I was just playing Budget Cuts. robot saw me so I ducked behind this wall. I was pretty much kneeling, and then this muthafukka pops up on my left :damn:

I literally fell on my ass, got the throwing knife out, and hit him with a perfect shot :smugdraper:

I felt like a true ninja :ninja2:

I'm literally imagining this happening and a cord just pulling your entire setup down.

I was up late last night VR'ing. tried some new games:

Irrational Exuberance: Prologue - cool (free) demo, and probably one of the first thing's I'll show people. not sure what the full game will be like though

Water Bears VR - I'm a sucker for puzzle games, and this one is pretty good, although not too difficult (yet). looks kinda short too, judging by the number of current puzzle sets, but maybe they'll ad more and/or workshop support in the future. it was really cool just being able to walk around the puzzle, and interact with it from different angles

Space Pirate Trainer - lots of fun. shooting, dodging, and using the shield all felt very intuitive. @Ciggavelli needs to get his high score up

finished the night messing with Universe Sandbox. I was just sitting on the floor, launching stars into our solar system, and watching the chaos :ahh:

almost forgot I also played Ethan Carter. at first I tried playing standing up with the controller, since you can also walk around in your play-space. but moving with the pad made me feel like I was gonna fall over. I decided to play sitting down. shyt was pretty cool. although it just feels like you're just flying around, and not a person walking in that world. overall the controls were kind of awkward, but it didn't make me sick or whatever

Weird, that game made me feel the 2nd most sick of any VR game (Astral Domine is the first). Turning left and right with the thumbstick made me feel uncomfortable. It's definitely a sitting game though, that's for sure.

copped and played Vanishing Realms last night. that game is pretty damn good. walking around a dark dungeon with a torch felt so immersive. and then the combat was a lot of fun. I was squaring up with those skeletons like "come at me bro". the 1:1 tracking with the sword and shield works real good

in general these VR games make you feel like a legit badass, because you're actually doing shyt (aiming, swinging, dodging) like in real life, and not just pushing some arbitrary button

wow, Elite Dangerous is really good in VR. the cockpit looks amazing, and being able to look around easily is a godsend
