wow, Elite Dangerous is really good in VR. the cockpit looks amazing, and being able to look around easily is a godsend
Yeah racers and flying games are perfect for VR. Probably the best use of the tech actually...

Yeah, that's actually a real complaint I have with the motion controls. shyt gets tiring after a while. And the 3 wires out the back of the headset do get in the way. I almost tripped over them several times (and actually fell down once)

playing Doom lastnight and the FOV felt so limited. kinda weird going back to 'regular' games after being completely surrounded by games

@Cigavelli and @daze23, is your computer in your living room or your office? Or how much space do you need to play? My office is pretty small, and i think i'll have to move my pc into my living room in order to have enough space to play. I'm hoping this isn't the case.

I move my PC into the other room for the Vive. my space is about 1.6m x 2.5m. that's enough for most stuff. at my girl's I got a 3m x 3m space, and it is better. basically the more space the better

How long is the USB cable that extends from your headset to the computer? Can you play without the room sensors?

I'm at like 10 by 10 in my living room. I'm gonna be moving into a new 2 bedroom apartment once this lease is up, and the second bedroom is gonna be a VR room/Office.

No, you need the base stations (sensors) above you. I'm 6'2" and I had them at them around the same height as me, and the sensors sometimes went outta sync. You gotta have them higher than your height. I added some boxes (lol), and now everything is all good.

the cable is around 15 feet long. plus it has a breakaway box, and you could get a longer usb and hdmi cable for that

you need the room sensors, and you might want to look into getting some different mounts for them. the mounts it comes with are the kind you screw into the wall. it uses the same size screw tripods and other camera equipment use, so there's a lot of options. I posted the ones I use a few pages back

did some more VR'ing last night:

Waltz of the Wizard was pretty cool. kind of a short tech demo (at least it's free), but it really shows the potential of the tech. it's kind of like Job Sim for wizards

Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades is a shooting range game. realistic weapons that make you go through all the steps to fire them (load, chamber a round, take off safety, etc.). it has a bunch of different modes, locations, and other options. and it's my understanding that the dev has been actively supporting and adding stuff to the game. it has a "gunasium" mode where you move around a course monkey-bars style by grabbing bars with your two hands, and stop to shoot targets. it's unique...

the Vertigo demo was really good. I'm definitely looking forward to that game. kind of reminds me of Budget Cuts. the 'boss' battle at the end was crazy :whew:

ended the night with The Foo Show (free). @Ciggavelli if you played Firewatch, you should definitely check it out. it's like a VR talk-show, but they take you inside the Firewatch tower, and you can interact with objects while they talk about them. it's cool cause they're all in the same VR simulation doing the show. it's definitely an interesting use of the tech

Pool Nation VR came out today... :patrice:

Pool Nation VR is dope :blessed:

pool physics are good, and being able to walk around the table to line up shots is great. playing against the AI is fun, but I haven't tried multiplayer yet :lupe:

graphics are pretty good (for VR), and the 'high' settings actually push my GPU. 'ultra' settings dropped down to 45fps, and I ain't trying to play a VR game like that. SDE does make things extra blurry in the distance though

and of course you can throw bottles around and cause general chaos. unfortunately no one reacts to it :heh:

@daze23 I don't know if you can still play Rift games on the Vive, but if you can, get Chronos. It's awesome. It's the like a real game (not that gimmicky shyt). It's 3rd person, but the VR works real well. Good graphics too. Highly recommended
