(1) Jay Z started his career before Nas...Jay Z been around since 88...He was featured in the "Hawaiian Sophie" video 1989...In 1990, he was featured on the "originators" by Jaz O...
Jay Z been in the game longer than Nas...Nas had to drop Illmatic for Jay Z to finally learn how to rap and get a deal...Facts...

(2) Jay Z had NO albums from 1988 to 1996, and he only started to blow up in the USA around 1998, and Globally, around 1999...However, that's a moot point...I am not going to count it against Jay Z for taking 10 years to blow up...

Debuts are OVERRATED, just because you don't make a big impact with your first joint, it doesn't mean you can't change the game over time...On the other hand, just because you make a big impact on your first joint, it doesn't mean you will be able to sustain it over time...

Also, if Jay Z 's logic is sound, then dudes like Slick Rick, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane should NOT be mentioned in ANY GOAT discussions...They are the same age as Jay Z and where are they at...?

Even more, Nas taking his time and/or having label issues before dropping albums is suppose to be a hot score for Jay Z...? :mjlol:

(3) So, Jay Z thinks "Illmatic" is dope and "IWW" is average, and we are suppose to go :damn:because of Jay Z's OPINION...Nas has NEVER thought that Jay Z was dope before the Beef...That's why he chose NOT to work with Jay Z...He thought dude was a corny sucker...

That's how the Beef started...Jay Z didn't get acknowledgement from his hip hop father, and when he got a little power and started feeling himself, he made his move for the throne, then got some Ether poured on him...

In conclusion,
Jay Z didn't spit facts...Takeover was some opinated gossipy ducktales...But the delivery was excellent and the Kanye beat complemented it...One of my favourite Jay Z songs...

Jay Z should have taken a page from 2Pac's war book, and drop "Super Ugly" first...When you go to war, you throw everything and the kitchen sink at your opponent for a quick and decisive victory...You don't play footsie footsie while giggling like a 12 year old girl...

The Ether burned through Jay Z's soul...You Jay Z fans may think that "Ether" was a wack and weak diss, and that's ok because (1) You are entitled to your opinion and (2) Ether was specifically written for Jay Z, and no one else (3) You probably never admired Nas the same way that Jay Z has always been a fan of Nas...

These 3 points just show how EFFECTIVE the Ether was...It is NOT a song that you may listen to everyday...Because it was written for a specific person at specific time...

Also, we all heard Jay Z's reaction after Ether...He had to go on vacation and re-evaluate his position, when he came back the Roc dissolved, and he started shifting his image into a new direction...

Take a whiff of that Ether brehs

Everybody around Jay said Ether killed Jay. Bleek, Beans, Dame etc. Nas took on the Roc, Nature Cormega, Prodigy during that time and none of these artists or groups has been the same since. These are indisputable facts. Rocafella at that time was like MMG on steroids as far as power in the game. Ether brought that to a halt. Why can't jay fans acknowledge facts?

......i'm just saying, it wasnt and never will be as powerful as cats try to make it out to be....did it have an impact? yes, cause he was going at jay who was running rap at the time...but was it this 'oh my god, i cant look at jay the same' diss that people keep trying to make it out to be? hell naw....the same way people were rocking with ether, they were rocking with takeover...

I dig super ugly...but it gets discounted cause nas didn't respond, so it got matched up against ether....since nas didn't respond, people took super ugly vs ether to compare instead of takeover vs ether...the true comparisons should've been stillmatic/super ugly, ether/takeover, last real nikka/blueprint 2....but it didn't shake out like that....and super ugly compared to ether is not a contest....one is a full fledged song vs a jacking for beats type freestyle....what it showed was jay wanted a long back and forth, nas didn't, but that's another topic...
