Library cards are free. I got my local one my parent's local one, Broward County Florida, San Jose Cali, Harris County Texas. I can mostly get whatever book I want when you add in my two Hoolpas.
Libgen is free too can download any book in the palm of my hand without running outside to the local library.

I've started going to the library a lot more after college and law school - had to downsize a bit with my book collection (had about 400-500) since my girl also has about 150+ books and we didn't have the space in my apartment.

It's a great place. Honestly kind of funny to see just how many people don't regularly read at all - not just books, but even standard magazines like the New Yorker, The Atlantic, New Republic, Ebony, Essence, Time, GQ, etc.

I actually renewed mine last week, you get free linkedinlearning classes among other things just for having one

Reading was one of the few things I had unlimited access to as a jit, mfs don't understand how impactful LeVar Burton showing different stories and books on PBS was :mjcry:

I signed up for a program to tutor illiterate adults at my library branch today, I have to send in my fingerprints and do a background check :ehh:

I actually don't read as many books as I should because my job requires me to read a lot so after work I usually look for other forms of entertainment/activities/mental stimulation, but I do have a library card and have been in the last year and I do read a lot of shyt online (like real articles/newsletters not just thecoli where I usually skip past the articles :troll:) that isn't work related.:unimpressed:

the patriot act dissuades me from using my library card. you need a library card to use the computer and the government can easily retrieve the record of what books or media you checkout.

bring back the computer signup sheet and we need a HIPAA style law regarding our library reading habits.

:comeon:

What are you reading that has you concerned about the patriot act… what book can you check out that would raise a red flag with the state?

shyt I got like 3 digital books on the go. Bought Fat Joe bio, Raekwon bio, Big bio that I haven't read, scarface bio, and Original Gangstas last month. I have so many bios in my callex and shelf. For some reason I really like biographies.

My job requires me to read and have an understanding of manuals, instruction, concepts and lessons learned so i do not read for entertainment/escapism. It throws people off when they find out that people who read exponentially more than them don't have an interest in reading for leisure.

I do try to get a library card from wherever i'm stationed just as a keepsake.

But these definitely came in handy on deployment

We reading now :dahell:

And wtf I’m gonna do with a library card or at the library :dahell:

A general misconception is that the only thing at libraries are books.

Libraries in most major cities offer things from access to public records, classes to learn/practice languages and other skills. all the way to renting power tools.

A lot of scammers wouldn't be as successful as they are if people realized that books provide everything their courses do...for free, and you don't run the risk of committing fraud.
