After reading some of these posts.. I guess I’m in the minority of people who’ve never interacted with any autistic people. :patrice:

Tbh I don’t even know what autism really is. I always ranked people from genius>intelligent>average>stupid (low emotional intelligence)>“slow”>full retard

Where would the autistic person fit in? :lupe:

Its a spectrum so you can an autistic child that has the potential to be a normal functioning member of society as an adult who has some quirks and on the other end it be someone who would be considered mentally retarded.

No idea how they test for these things but many don’t believe in the diagnosis or letting doctors treat their kids, or meds.

But descriptions of the behavior, speech or lack thereof and/or impulsive behaviors (violent or otherwise socially maladaptive
in group settings) usually gets to a good start. Some can still integrate with a class some cannot (peer-based). And some do have to be kept at home (not accounting for if there’s trauma).

A big part of the tests is seeing what milestones the child has achieved for their age range. So if the average kid at 2 is talking in short sentences and the child being tested is 4 and can't say a single word then they gonna test other things like how do they do with eye contact and how do they react to their name being called things like that.

Meanwhile a young Ashton Kutcher was going to college to be a research scientist to try to find a cure/improve treatment for his twin brother’s cerebral palsy.
Exactly. Some people will look to help others overcome what they've faced while others fall to pieces.

The parents definitely handled their children wrong. However, parenthood doesn't automatically come with a manual.

I agree that this young person's anger is misdirected. He shouldn't harbor ill feelings towards his autistic brother. He can't help his situation and I am sure he would rather have a normal life as well...

The younger brother definitely need counseling because he has some deep rooted issues going on. He clearly has anti social behavior and probably will have a difficult time connecting with people as he ages, so perhaps someone on reddit laced him with some game and tell him to seek therapy before he does something drastic to his brother, mother and/or himself....

I've worked in a Mental Health / Mental Retardation inpatient setting...

These folks can be extremely stressful to take care of.. especially the bigger ones that can get somewhat violent.

The writer resents how his brothers condition has affected his life.... I'd imagine this is somewhat common in families with special needs kids.... shyt is hard to deal with.
