This was my exact reaction reading thru this thread lol

Since when you old heads didn't fukk with that song or Whitney for that matter?
:dwillhuh:
I think I remember at some point in the 90s that Whitney herself said she didn’t even like the music they were making her sing and she wanted to do more R&B shyt but Clive and them wouldn’t let her. She didn’t get more control of her sound till after the Bodyguard. Now by no means am I trying to compare Whitney to a cat like Flo Rida but the situations are similar. He’s a rapper who makes music strictly for pop radio. They had her doing the same shyt all thru the 80s

and while we at it WHY ARE WE EVEN COMPARING WHTNEY AND ANITA ANYWAY?

THEY ARE IN TWO DIFFRENT LANES...

WHTNEY HAD THE RANGE FOR THE R&B and GOSPEL genres..while ANITA HAD THE TONES FOR THE JAZZ/BLUES genres

THIS IS APPLES AND ORANGES
This.

However, there was absolutely a time where Whitney was considered too pop. This also was the time of that bubble gum pop like tiffany and debbieGibson. While sher music wasn't exactly like theirs, some of here music was closer to that then R&B of the time.

If you watch old interviews of Clive Davis talking about Whitney he says all this. He knew the talent that she had and wanted her to be the most marketable singer in the industry. shyt was all by design

The kirk to the fields
This whole thread is a :flabbynsick: fest. Most of us remember. That's your proof.
:dead: I'll take anyone who's from that era's word for it.

I just wanted to know because sometimes dudes have this weird "black people are out to get me!!" shyt they like to force into everything.

But I believe you. What made people change their minds about her?

But it's kinda weird because Vanessa Williams got cheered

Whitney Looks WAAAAAAAY more black than her.
It ain’t got nothing to do with looks at all. At the time Whitney was one of the biggest stars in the world. Vanessa Williams wasn’t on that level
