Someone fakes it for them. Usually it is over the phone for in general if it is remote or depending on where the person is. When a bunch get hired it is usually because shyt needs to get done and they have bodies to throw at it. Also it is the setup as well. The H1-B company rarely works with the direct client as well, they are usually subcontracted out by the actual staffer and they do the interview. So after that the U.S. staffing company will vouch for them to the client. Once they get to the job, they send their projects to actual engineers back home that will do the designs and also the implementations. They also clique up at work and find another H1-B or Indian that they trust to help them or outright do their work. And once you are in, people will assume you know what you are doing just because.

And it is fukked up situation because there can be multiple companies getting paid off of the work before they get a penny. One that i am cool with that knows his shyt has 4 layers (staffing companies) in the way of the money they are charging the company for him. So in his case it was H1-B<Indian company< American staffing company #1< American staffing company #2<American staffing company #3. I had only 2 to deal with which was unavoidable given how the company hired contractors at the time. But the client is being billed $120 an hour for each of us, but he is only seeing $30 of it. Not only that he has to pay for everything(Food, Rent, Car), whereas my company paid for everything for awhile, including my moving expenses. A good chunk of the money stays in the Indian company hands because they are sponsoring them for employment, and they know most of them do not want to take the risk to get sent back to India for asking for more money.
So they have that good ole boy network going on there.

how are brothas treated in your field?

My neighbor practices his sax and trumpet from 8am and randomly throughout the day. These are times I would be at the office. Now I hear this shyt :unimpressed:

LOL I got a butch lesbian that lives a few houses up from me that has a gym in her garage. I can hear the weights dropping from my office. Doesn't really bother me, though, like it does my wife. I hear it and I'm like :salute: "ol girl getting it in".... Her girlfriend kinda thick tho, she caught me peeping one day when she was getting into her car.

Best schedule I ever had was a job I had off on Wednesday and the weekend. Everytime I turned around it felt like a Friday and having a day off mid-week was a game changer.

Current schedule usually has me WFH 2 days a week anyway, so pretty much more of the same.

My next job I'm asking 4 10s. 3 day weekends means I could travel wherever in the U.S., Canada, or Mexico:banderas:

I would not call it a "good boy network", more like "i dont want to go back to India" network. The interview and placement process is the same for Americans, but with not as much fraud. The staffing companies usually are not that discerning unless they are hiring engineers as employees, and it depends on whether the companies vet as well. For example the company i work for now did not vet contractors directly until a change in management dictated we vetted them as well. Damn near everyone that came in for various positions knew almost nothing about the job they were applying for even though their resume said otherwise. And most of them were H1-B's. I was brought into some of them to grill some applying to my team and it was so bad i had to train up someone on our team that had little engineering expertise to help out with projects.

As far as black men in the I.T. field, i can not speak for everyone but my experience has been great. I have had no issues with people messing with me or anything that i can see because i am black. It is probably a combination of being put in good groups of people and being personable, which goes a long way. The other black people i deal with at work( few that they are) never came to me with any issues they had, but i am not naive in thinking everywhere is great. You really have to let some of the things people say roll off your back, because sometimes people say shyt that makes me want start a new episode of "When keeping it real goes wrong", but i never do. It has always been something corny or what someone thought was cool, but never malicious. My advice to other people in the field is to be personable, outgoing, keep controversial topics to happy hour time, and most importantly get your work done.

I can not stress enough how important being personable is for your job and career even if you have to fake it. People prefer someone they can talk to that is average at their job versus someone who is great at their job but is unapproachable or seems distant.

At least you're smart enough to understand this. Most Americans are not very self aware of how capitalism works. :francis:

If the government gave a tax incentive to hire American workers, this wouldn’t be a problem. But they took the Republican tax cuts, and continued to outsource, and automate.

:scust: waste of time getting dressed for work, waste of time pretending to be friendly and welcoming. Waste of time talking to co-workers, waste of time spent in traffic.

I literally logon on the dot :blessed: and am not as tired when I am done working :blessed:. Sometimes I work 1 or 2 hours more but if I am in the office, I am leaving soon as I put in 8 hours.

The only thing is, if I can do it remotely so can an Indian and Romanian guy thousands of miles away for much cheaper :beli:.

preach

fukk the commute, fukk dealing with office politics, fukk dealing with CACs and fukk wasting my time when i could be doing 5 things at once instead of filtering out the audible BS from co-workers.

For many, corona has clearly been a major inconvenience but for others this shyt has been then inconvenient blessing.

Any job where you're not working for yourself gets old and redundant quick. I used to drive trucks because I was one of those "refuse to work an office job" people. Now at 30 an office job doesn't sound so bad. Tired of moving around and hopping in and out of trucks/gas stations etc

I wouldn't want it to be 100% yet :whoa: a lot of us junior staff brehs will really struggle i've been furloughed because there ain't shyt for me to do so in the long term i'd probably lose my job. Those coming out of college and shyt will find it hard to find entry level jobs since companies will feel less need to be hire junior staff. The care takers, security and facilities staff will all be a redundant field altogether with no office :wow:
