I remember a time where you could buy a video game console to do exactly just that..

You bought the console. you bought the game, you plugged everything up. you put the game in and you started playing. the most you would have to do is by a memory card or some shyt like that.

you didn't have to worry about connecting to no type of network. If you wanted to play against someone else you would invite a friend over or go to their crib. you didn't watch movies or do other random shyt like that. More importantly.... it wasn't a major investment.

I feel you on a lot of this shyt but you don't have anywhere near the problems as me and other Caribbean cats who don't got the proper Internet speeds to keep up with this 'Always be connected' shyt that these games is going in nowadays.

One of the many reasons I'm glad I'm off of shyt like Destiny is the minute my connection dropped too low, :camby: I'm out.
Plus a lot of these games you download riddled with bullshyt license and DRM issues that require me to be online to play the full version or else it will revert to the DEMO version. It's fukked, but you've the resources to cope, man be thankful for that atleast.

and i remember a time when you had to have a VHS player then a DVD player sitting on top or next to your PS1,ps2, xbox .

the cost of both of those things together = the cost of the consoles today. or actually today they are a tad bit less overall then the combo of a DVD player when they were some what newer + a gaming system.

I remember a time when you had to go to the video store to rent videos you wanted to see and if they were out of stock oh well. you had to wait until someone brought them back. i remember a time when if you forgot you had that video or game rental in the trunk of your car. blockbuster and the likes would hit you with all sorts of late return fees.

i remember a time when almost NO one could get a game before the release day unless they new that one korean dude in the swapmeet/flea market.

i remember a time where if you didnt have a bunch of homies/no brothers to play with you were out of luck stuck playing vs the cpu all the time(now that wasnt my issue i had brothers and a lot of homies to play with. but i'm not everyone else). so now you have access to play with millions of people all over the world(in some games).

does the online lag suck?YEP. does the fact that your entire game goes down when the servers go down? YEP.

but you get a lot of additions with that online look. and you said "other random stuff like watching movies" when did that become random? why not watch netflix on the same console as your game? if you're not using it at that moment to play a game who cares if you use it on the main tv in the living room to watch a movie? now you dont have to watch netflix on your phone or laptop. now you dont need that extra adapter to connect your cell phone or laptop to your main tv.

Remember when cars were just cars? Now you don't even need keys to start them.

I wrong about the bolded. All the way back to the NES/Sega Genesis/SNES days these consoles were major investments. Video games were EXPENSIVE as fukk.

Not cheaper than ever but basically. It's DEF cheaper than the Genesis/SNES era.
No. Cheaper than ever by far

The Real Cost of Gaming: Inflation, Time, and Purchasing Power - IGN

And that's without even talking about all the deals and bundles available today. You can buy a game new and get a $25 gift card with it.

Or think about if they had something like PS+ back in the day. Your parent could spend $50 once and you get a couple new games every month.

That shot woulda been crazy.

Depends on how u look at it. If u talkin bout the deals u get to get free games or alotta percentage off. Such as steam and PS+ and Xbox Live Gold. I agree. Also if we talkin bout indies. I agree as well. AAA games price plus the DLC are kinda killer tho. That's why I can't give it all away to this gen as being the overall cheapest. It can be if u factor everything in tho. Some I'm not really disagreeing with u.

Did you read the article I posted?

DLC is optional, and even if you add the cost games are still cheaper. 60 for the base and 20 for the season pass is still cheaper than the $100 it used to cost for N64 games.

Games have been like the same price for decades. They're a great deal. I spent $60 on MGSV, for example, and got 150 hours of enjoyment. That's 75 movies. If a movie is $10 a pop, that's $750. Gaming is a great deal, even with dlc.

In all reality, games should be like $80-$100 if you consider inflation...maybe more.

I said that they are cheaper. I just said they weren't the cheapest. I don't know what we even arguing about bro. Lol. PS1 and Saturn games were like 39.99 at one point. But overall I agree with u.. Anyone who actually lived thru the other gaming gens since NES should know better.
