So let me get this str8. It's all good if only black people watch it but once a white audience got hold of it it's str8 c00ning. Mane you nikkas somethin else I tell you. I'm out this thread out of pure disgust of the ignorance being perpetuated in here.

:salute: to the gawd satirical comedian Dave Chappelle.

The 215
Carter G Woodson said if you can control a mans mind, you don't have to tell him to go through the back of the door, he'll go on his own accord. I knew that was why he quit the show, I was in the car with my brother, and he said my father had the same theory. All of my brothers, and sisters loved it, but I could never bring myself to watch it.
Thats true but don't you have to be weak minded for that approach to work?

wtf is you talking about breh, he said it himself. He was doing a skit about black people and the only person who was laughing was the white dude and he buddies. After that he felt like he was c00ning, the material he was doing wasnt even his, he said that skit was made by some white guy.

That's easy; you'd turn an institution, as Hollywood (that's supposed to be the "land of promise/dreams" or whatever), on it's head if ppl were able to believe a normally functioning person turned down $50 million.

I do know what context you posted this in, but, I agree.

That's why I don't like the way "c00n/c00nery" is used on SOHH/the-coli.

Here (and there) it means; exuberant black person.

Yes, Dave tackled a lot of racial issues with satire, but, I don't understand how that made him less of a man.

I really have no position on this (the Dave leavin' CC thing) as most ppl.

He gets the word c00n thrown on em bcuz his shyt made its way to white people,he actually knew he had a pretty good size white fanbase tho so maybe he should've been more aware about what he wuz doing and sayin, but that's not really a good way to do comedy now is it?:mjpls:

Its the same knock Chris Rock gets for that "black folks vs nikkas" shyt....first of all he wuz doin that for a black audience who knew what the hell he wuz talkin about,he's not even sayin "******s" which white racist cacs have taken time to spin it into....had he made it for white people it would be c00nin but he didn't.....gotta salute chapell for realizing how many white folks wuz catchin on and how sum of hi shyt would now appear as c00nery based off how succesful and mainstream the show became.....can't hate on dude at all for turnin all that bread down.

I will say that show is overated and has sumhow put him over as a better comedian than Chris Rock:childplease: and Martin Lawrence:wtb:? Martin is waaaaaaaay funnier as far as shows go,I don't even chapell show no more, but I stay watchin old Martin Seasons at a time:laff: show has short shelf life imo

Yeah nikkaz saying I'm wrong for saying it but Dave said it himself. Is he wrong too about his own show?:dwillhuh:

is Chapelle a c00n cause he didnt marry a black woman? :ohhh:

:notsure: Wondered how this question was going to fly, according to Coli logic. Same with :mj:. Seems like certain black celebs receive selective immunity from the same criticism given to others b/c they're more respected.

Anyway, this isn't a terrible thread (IMO) for the simple fact that it opened up a decent discussion about Dave Chappelle. You'll always get some ridiculous opinions, but I saw plenty of good ones and that "Inside The Actor's Studio" was a good watch.

Makes me want to go back and watch a lot of the skits with a different mindset so yeah, no negative opinion here.

I always didn't like that for different reasons.

The Chappelle show was FARRRRR from c00nery. It was comedic-Satire

image.png

He did a brilliant job at educating people who didn't give a f*ck about education by playing into the negative sh*t that they did care about. Chris Rock tells a lot of socially aware jokes too, but wasn't as successful with a younger audience as Dave was because of the way he approached it. Dave went "crazy" because he was reaching a wide audience and slowly, but surely forcing them to ask questions they wouldn't normally ask. Like the famous saying goes: it's not the people inside the church who needs saving. If he would have been doing the things he was doing without actually dropping jewels THEN it would have been c00nery, but there was clearly a method to his madness. Dave is FARRRR from crazy; he knew exactly what he was doing, but when the powers that be caught on to what he was doing that's when sh*t got "crazy", You don't get offered 50mil without having some very powerful people interested in you. If you watch some of his interviews post-Chappelle show when he talks about "crossing an economic threshold" and things of that nature you can read between the lines.

The bolded is the same thing Im trying to do, I havent watched the Chapelle Show in YEARS since I was a youngin in middle school so Im sure some stuff flew over my head. Thats why I have no real stance on it currently, like Im reading some of these posts like :ohhh:.

Although that blackface sketch posted was bad tho, I didnt even laugh, chuckle, or smirk. First off the c00n, chucking and jiving is a :deadhorse: that is played out, secondly it was whack, and third and foremost it was in bad taste.

I dont think it was c00nery. There was a point to all of his skits..its just the point wasnt clear to many cacs..and appearently some of us black folks :yeshrug:

Its fuked up that you can have a cac like jim carey or the dude that plays miss doubtfire act like clowns...and noone says its c00nery or any other racially degrading name....let a black person make silly comedy and its c00nery? :why:

Yeah nikkaz saying I'm wrong for saying it but Dave said it himself. Is he wrong too about his own show?:dwillhuh:

that's reductionist as fukk breh. dave chappelle never said his show was "c00ning" as you have clearly said (and contradicted :mindblown:) in this thread. he said that once certain people without insight into racial sensitivity got to it, it became de-interpreted, if you will, as satire, and turned into "haw haw black peepl", which of course leads to "they're saying it, why can't i? it must be true" logic, which is what leads lil white kids to get punched for saying the dreaded N word.

look at jewish comedians. they started this stand up comic shyt, but they were never daring enough to poke fun at themselves in front of largely gentile audiences, especially in mid 20th century when such topics were not discussed outside of dinner tables and klan/neo nazi meetings. but if they HAD, people would definitely have laughed at the jokes, and i'm sure more often than not would have been in the same situation - non-jews laughing at jews making fun of things that they've been persecuted for throughout the ages - big noses, whiney voices, spending habits - all the stereotypes. the difference is that dave chappelle pushed that envelope even further and kinda got burned by it, unfortunately. but i respect him for doing it, even if he ultimately failed in getting us to address race with humor. he failed on our account, not on his own.

jews had to be in comfortable positions in hollywood before they started cracking on themselves - you can criticize them for relative lack of audacity, of you can praise them for not "breaking rank" and exposing "secrets" of their communities. either one has valid points, but neither encompasses the whole truth. dave "broke rank" in an incredibly cutting fashion, but in doing so he held up a mirror to america and proved to us that we are in no way ready to deal with serious racial issues as we might have thought in a so-called post civil rights (or even more ridiculous "postracial") society.

i'm just saying - would you have felt more comfortable in laughing at his show, during and after, around all black folks, than around a mixed crowd or, even worse, all white folks? if yes, you need to reevaluate your "c00nery" verdict.

Born2bking is good peoples but this is probably one of the worst threads ive seen on here

In all seriousness. Just because someone misinterprets your show doesnt make it c00ning. If a cop says i look suspicious doesnt mean i do. If i speak perfect english and i walk in a room and a cac laughs at me, that doesnt mean i said anything wrong.

You giving cacs way to much power here, when it comes to black issues there almost completely oblivious to it. So it shouldnt even surprise you that they didnt get it...just because a cac laughed at the skits and didnt see the point dave was making, doesnt make it c00ning. All it means is that a cac didnt interpret the skit the way it was intended

And as a black person its really disappointing that a fellow negro isnt able to understand this :snoop:
