You have to be an allstar if you don't have looks. Unfortunate, but producers are trying to get p*ssy and make money. They're not trying to half step on either

Just goes to show how stupid labels are,and the fact they don't actually know females.
Being too pretty, and even worst, too pretty AND lightskin can hurt you in RNB.
It's a fine line between women finding you attractive and wanting to be you.
Vs women hating you,and both women and men thinking "she think she the shyt, shes overated, and only got where she's at because she's pretty and lightskin".
The thin line is whether or not women relate to your story, and find you relateable as a person,or got to watch you come from the bottom and really grind.
Keyshia Cole=relateable red bone,Tinashe is not a relateable redbone to black women at large, through her music or personality.Women ain't just rooting for any ol pretty lightskin chick. Why?because alot of the times "shes overated, and only got where she's at because she's pretty and lightskin" is very accurate more times than not.
But its a shame for the lightskin women who that is not the case for. But the labels created this problem for women in the industry. Its almost like being a white rapper, you had to go through a little more to prove yourself to the fans that mattered{black male fans}. Not sure why labels think black men are important as a demographic in female rnb or hiphop though, explains the horrible talent pool over the years in both,as image became more important.

Mixed women don’t have it hard in rnb miss me with the non struggle. Again, BW don’t dictate todays rnb trends. If they did, you would actually see them.

BW can’t even get their own representative to keep their careers why would they support mediocre light skinned pop stars?

The fact Tinashe lasted as long as she has is because she is a mixed chick. There is no equivalency here.

Tinashe is average pretty there is nothing spectacular about her looks that would make her standout in this overrated/saturated/nontalented market, she has the look of a dozen other mixed chicks. Keyshia cole and Tinashe are not even marketed to the same demographic nor rose at the same time period. I prefer keyshia come music because it’s better to my ears than Tinashe. Although Tinashe technically fits my demographic.

I find black female rnb singers in average more talented and prettier to me. So those are the ones I personally support first and foremost. Mixed singers have to be talented or else I skip them cause too many get opportunities that really should go to BW.

I didn't say mixed women,I said lightskin ,so same difference,im not going to argue if biracials are black in here. If they are attractive, they do have it harder due to the fact that the presumption is that they didn't get where they are based on talent, which is somewhat true in many cases. But instead hey got a chance because they had some talent, but looks and being lightskinned played a factor. This assumption isn't made about all the attractive darker skinned/carmel women who do hiphop/rnb. So yes, there actually is a little colorism from many black women there, because they see the common discrimination, colorism and favoritism from labels. and in turn that is taken out on the woman herself instead of the labels.

What's funny is that it's very common for male rappers to get told by their labels to get in the gym/ get a stylist so they can appeal to women.

If you really think about R&B women in the early mid 2000's.... she didn't really have a chance.

She wasn't an elite hot piece of ass like Christina Milian, didn't have crossover appeal like J Lo wasn't the total package like Beyonce, Couldn't Dance like Ciara, wasn't neo soul enough to hang with Jill Scott or Alicia Keys ( Dyke Version)

Sad. Always thought Nivea was cute. Laundromat was a nice modest hit. Catchy tune and instant middle school nostalgia anytime I hear it. I even made a thread about it.
