Well she is ugly (to me), but that shouldn't have stifled her career.

I didn't say mixed women,I said lightskin ,so same difference,im not going to argue if biracials are black in here. If they are attractive, they do have it harder due to the fact that the presumption is that they didn't get where they are based on talent, which is somewhat true in many cases. But instead hey got a chance because they had some talent, but looks and being lightskinned played a factor. This assumption isn't made about all the attractive darker skinned/carmel women who do hiphop/rnb. So yes, there actually is a little colorism from many black women there, because they see the common discrimination, colorism and favoritism from labels. and in turn that is taken out on the woman herself instead of the labels.
Women like Monica and Keyshia are not going to be looked at the same way as Ella Mai and Jorja Smith. Being light skin black and being biracial makes a difference; having a white parent has you perceived differently.

A lot of fine bytches never pop as well. Tinashe and Olivia from G Unit come to mind. You need to have your own sound too. Just being generic with a decent voice ain't enough.

Doesn't seem to help them numbers wise as much as people think being biracial helps, and causes them to not be seen as black women by white people:comeon:.Monica and Keyshia aren't looked at the same way because they were marketed and because of their background, but Mya was marked the same way as all the rnb princesses back then and did just fine as a pretty biracial. Tinashe is viewed differently because her label tried to play both sides, and based on her background doesn't come accross as "down" or relateable. But she doesn't play up being biracial in her music. Its her skin color and attractiveness that bought so much hate,as people view her as getting too many chances and looks based on that. I don't think Ella Mai has the same problem as Tinashe at all at the moment, because for one she isn't marketed in a sexual manner, and she gave black females a real anthem they love organically.

Because of a history colorism advantages,I think you just need to downplay attractiveness of lightskins in music if I was at a label. I definitely wouldn't play it up,or promote their sexuality too much. Ella Mai label is doing things right for now.

She's not the first to hear that, she won't be the last.

It's why Jean grae can rap circles around all these rap chicks and no one knows who she is
Yet if you call out the system for handpicking nicki minaj and Cardi b to promote over more talented female mcs to perpetuate dysfunction and negative stereotypes amongst blacks, you’re a hater. That’s exactly how the katt Williams thing just played out. We see that the system is set up for white profit at the expense of everything else but we allow individual benefits to deflect.

Could y’all please shut up about skin color, attractiveness and being biracial. Never in my life have me and friends brought up those attributes when discussing singers we like or don’t like. No one gives a fukk. Mariah, mya, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Alicia, and Amerie all popped off and were loved, as were Ashanti, Kelly Rowland, Monica and brandy. Generic chicks, flavors of the moment, or those who just don’t have it all failed or had limited success and that extended to brown girls like Tierra Marie, seven streeter and light skins chicks like Cassie, Christina Milian, Keri Hilson and tinashe. Women don’t give a fukk about color or looks, it’s who has talent or the “it factor”, keeps putting out hits, has an alluring brand and/or is relatable. Nothing else matters.

This is an old thing.

As harsh as it sounds its still the truth.

Why does every booty posing model on IG have thousands or millions of followers? Cuz the guys wanna
fukk, and the chicks wanna be like them because of the attention they get.

Same goes for guys.
