Could y’all please shut up about skin color, attractiveness and being biracial. Never in my life have me and friends brought up those attributes when discussing singers we like or don’t like. No one gives a fukk. Mariah, mya, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Alicia, and Amerie all popped off and were loved, as were Ashanti, Kelly Rowland, Monica and brandy. Generic chicks, flavors of the moment, or those who just don’t have it all failed or had limited success and that extended to brown girls like Tierra Marie, seven streeter and light skins chicks like Cassie, Christina Milian, Keri Hilson and tinashe. Women don’t give a fukk about color or looks, it’s who has talent or the “it factor”, keeps putting out hits, has an alluring brand and/or is relatable. Nothing else matters.

I respect most of what you're saying however I have to correct you. Sevyn Streeter is not a failure, she is gonna be the future and just got off to a rough patch. She got a little shine but it's hard for her to cut through in the current era and her being Dark skin doesn't help her just like Justine Skye. It's harder for them and I think skin color does have something to do with it.

Also Kerri Hillson didn't fail or have limited success, she actually was running shyt at one time if you remember till allegedly Beyonce had her black balled for comments she made about her.

..has nothing to do with her looks.....if that was the case Amere and shyt load of other mixed types that were out back then would have blown up. The problem with Nivea was that nothing about her music stood out.

Women like Monica and Keyshia are not going to be looked at the same way as Ella Mai and Jorja Smith. Being light skin black and being biracial makes a difference; having a white parent has you perceived differently.

ella and jorja haven't even reach the level of success of keyshia, much less the heights of monica

I don't know breh, they got more hits but Ella got that airplay record working in her favor right now. I believe she is tied with Mariah Carey for most airplay by a woman in the R and B and hiphop Genre and is number 2 on that list behind Mary J Blige.

Though as far as hits and records they got her beat no question. Her album hasn't even dropped yet.

Nivea was a cute chick when she came out. Not sure how her label saw Ciara as more fukkable than she was when she has a way more feminine features and appeal.

She actually beat Mariah and is now tied with Mary J Blige who is the highest woman on that list. The record was for most airplay or spins for a single, essentially she was number one on the R and B and hiphop airplay chart for 15 weeks now...

Ella Mai's 'Boo'd Up' Ties For Most Weeks at No. 1 by a Woman On R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay Chart

Boo'd Up has been getting that many spins apparently.

sevyn has been in two failed r&b groups and struggling to ignite her solo career since 2014, she has failed bruh. Never mind she’s also over 30 at this point, very few female acts breakout past the age of 30. She has talent and I like her, but she doesn’t have “it”. And lol @ even mentioning Justine skye. And how is this a skin color thing when in one breath the men in here are saying black women dont support light skin or mixed singers? furthermore the biggest r&b act to pop as of late, sza, is brown/dark. :what:

Keri hilson never ran anything, she had a couple singles pop from her debut album (that album did ok, nothing crazy but not a flop) and her follow up was wack as shyt, plus the beyonce beef.

What! Sevyn is 32 :mjlol: DAMN! I looked it up and you're actually right and she been doing music since 2001. I didn't even know it was her in that rich girl group :deadmanny: Okay, I'll take the L here brehette. She failed for the most part lmao.

As for Justine Skye, watch your mouth. She's from Brooklyn and is just one record away if you ask me. I can't speak for everyone's argument in here but I feel that if a woman is light skin, beautiful and getting major push without the talent to back it up then black women the major supporters of RnB music will not support them due to hatred of them and a feeling they got there for their color which is often the case (ie, Tinashe). Women usually support other woman they see as relatable or that they want to be due to talent or it factor as you said and as I agree with you on, however color does play a role too sometimes as well as looks. If you're ugly you have to be remarkable talent wise to win and in fact I can't even name an ugly female rnb star tbh, some people say Mary J but her years ago was okay to me, I don't see her as ugly. From what I seen if a woman is dark skin I feel it's harder for them to break through a lot of times and they have to have twice the amount of talent of a woman of lighter complexion due to the way we see color.

SZA is lighter then Sevyn Streeter and Justin Skye, google pictures of her and compare it to pics of them. SZA is also backed by interscope and TDE so that all has helped her a lot. There was a time she wanted to quit music, got frustrated and was bugging out. I didn't forget about that. There was a time where it seemed she would be stuck as a writer and was not going to blow up as well. She kept working at it and now she is a success but if you pay attention she had to lose weight to do it and some people say she is bleaching but I don't think so, who knows.

As for Keri Hilson, you say a couple singles but she was on a little run which is why I say she was running things during that small period. I remember how bad I wanted to smash at that time but I digress. My point is this, who knows how big she would have been if it wasn't for that Beyonce thing. I can't say she was generic, flavor of the month of had limited success, she had real success at that time for the two or so years she was buzzing. Flavor of the month to me is like a one hit wonder kind of deal.

Another point I want to make about your post is how can you list Amerie up there with Beyonce and Mariah Carey. She was a one hit wonder. You are bugging!

Keri Hillson had more impact then Amerie for sure. Amerie is the one who had limited success.
