I never looked at Drake as a mc I always thought he made good radio hits and is an artist. I'll admit I haven't heard the reference tracks I think I'll google it. That's why dude was talking about battling Mook because he know he' s not looked at as a mc but a rapper with some radio bangers. Hold up though how he have ghostwriters didn't he write this for Alicia Keys?

His ghostwriters wrote it for Alicia Keys

I think your initial point of Kanye being in top 5 -10 lyricists lists and being seen as an elite lyricist is a bit of a reach compared to what you have presented here. 31 is good but it's not top ranking

As for Drake, he will survive just fine, most of his fans don't care that he uses ghostwriters, they only care about the hits. But when speaking about the best lyricists of this era, Kendrick will get a mention, Cole will get a mention, Drakes name just won't be able to hang with them.

#31 is a HUGE deal.

that list was a joke from top-to-bottom anyway.

I said that there are people who have Kanye in their Top 10 lists more so speaking of fans in general. Me posting the Nas line and The Source top 50 list was proof that he's viewed as elite by his peers and journalists. Nas saying what he said about him and him being placed on a list of best lyricists in Hip Hop is not a reach.

Ice Cube's cousin ghostwrote a joint for him.....shoutouts to Del

:beli:

I already dispelled that shyt like 4 pages ago with a quote from Del himself where he explicitly states he never wrote for Cube.

Del the Funky Homosapien Recalls the Past, Skips Nostalgia

"It's not like Cube or Yo-Yo needed me to write lyrics as a ghost writer, but they invited me into the mix. We all helped out."

He said there would be a bunch of them in a room together, and if someone came up with the basis for a hook or a line it would be worked on.

You guys gotta stop hopping on the internet just saying whatever the fukk pops into your head man. Or repeating rumors with no factual basis.

Fred.

There's people who actually have Kanye in their Top 5 and Top 10 lists. There's other rappers in the game who have said that Kanye is an elite lyricist. We've had Hip Hop journalist put Kanye West in a top lyricist list.

And those people who say that knowing that cats have consistently written for Kanye (and let's not kid ourselves, even those written shyts aint that great), they are clowns too

and no one says that Eazy was some great lyricist man. Let's stop that nonsense. And I love Easy.

If you ever had Drake in that conversation the joke is on you. That's why y'all act so hurt by this, because deep down y'all were closet admirers of his pen game

Nah, never that.

I never had him in the conversation, on an (potential) all time level. But as someone who loves this shyt and who also tries to be as objective as possible I understood his appeal and felt like I saw ENOUGH talent and prowess to see why he could be in the position he's in among competition like Nap King Cole. I just chalked it up to this era being like Heavy Weight boxing where talent pool for the most recognized part of the sport was :ld: gave his fans their space to be them and K.I.M.

But in light of recent events, songs where he's clearly claiming supremacy over his peers, telling people how much of a rapper they aren't in comparison all while spitting lines he didn't write...

:francis:

It's even gotten as far as talks of him wanting to move into the battle circuit to try and gain respect and credibility as a lyricist to counter balance his pop appeal...now he's sitting next to Rakim Allah.

I'm just one person, I understand I don't govern Hip Hop as a whole but I can't fukk with that....and i'm sure those sentiments resonate with a lot of people and it has very little to do with feeling lied to or ever being admirers of his work like that.

I think it depends on the tone and subject..

Swag rap or punch line heavy rap is one thing because the words are so cookie cutter, impersonal and hollow..

But if it was discovered that someone wrote Dear Mama for Tupac the song would "sound" worse.. Because the emotions and passion behind them wouldn't be authentic..

So in that case, ghost writing would make it a lesser song..

Real talk.

An example I pointed out in another thread was "I'll Be Missing You".
That's supposed to be a heartfelt song expressing how you feel about your deceased homie,
and you paid a nicca to write that...A nicca who says Jay is better than Big.

That's clown chit. And there's no way to spin that.

LOL

My dawg - why are people acting like this didn't happen?

They are forcing this (half-)nicca on the populace, yo...and people are acting like there's something wrong
with you because you can see it...

Only reason I brought it up is because people have moved goal posts. They've moved goal posts by saying, "well at least guys like Kanye weren't taken seriously". I'm saying not only did Kanye try to promote himself into an echelon of elite MC's, but he had a PR campaign of people putting him there too.

Eazy as a lyricist? No, but Eazy as an MC, there's people who do/did have him high.

I been doing this all week man. It's damn near a full time job stopping these clowns from making shyt up.

I swear to God if another Drake stan slanders a legend with no proof....

:whoa:I'm not a drake Stan, I've heard that Del rumor (specifically "once upon a time in the projects") since the 90's. I trust/believe Del denials, but I wouldn't expect him to throw Cube under the bus either.

Cube has already gotten his ass whooped for biting. Breh isn't a fraud but it shows just how far hip hop has fallen if a legend can get policed back then and a fake like Drake cannot these days.
