Say, remove Ye from that "they aren't trying to be or being seen as great MCs" argument. He has an album called Watch the Throne, basically the hip hop throne. If you're on the throne you're claiming to be at the top, in this case the top of the hip hop game. Then you had nikkas on here claiming WTT and Yeezus were "pro black" albums but Ye doesn't even write his lyrics yet he was getting acclaim for the songs. I've seen people put Ye in their type 5 on here, and not just for production. Ye isn't just viewed as a producer. I've seen people give him acclaim and top 5/top 10 status on being a total artist even though it's known he doesn't write his own lyrics. He still gets accolades for Jesus Walks and his early work even though it's known he didn't write much of that material. So don't put him in that Dre/Puff category. They were never hailed as great MCs. Kanye has been. Easy is considered a legend too. And you all have recently stated if you don't write your own lyrics you can't be legend status. Soooooooo.......what's Easy then?

Real talk.

An example I pointed out in another thread was "I'll Be Missing You".
That's supposed to be a heartfelt song expressing how you feel about your deceased homie,
and you paid a nicca to write that...A nicca who says Jay is better than Big.

That's clown chit. And there's no way to spin that.

True .. but Sauce did say he had to think about his mother's passing to get the emotion in that song .. So .. technically its not an emotionless song from the "writers" point of view..

and DAMN IT.. I'm sick of this misconception of what ghostwriting is.... Sauc won a grammy for that.. sonf is written by sauce performed by Puffy .. not ghostwritten..

drake as the new jay.
j.cole as the new nas.

The same media who blames every black person killed by the police for their own death. :comeon:The media especially, will fuk your brain up.

I can understand it to an extent - Pac wasn't an established artist yet, he didn't have his own style, and 2Pacalypse Now was him becoming a rapper. I really don't want to sound like I'm a Pac stan, but he was a back-up dancer turned rapper and his role models were real cats from the streets who had made music prior to him. Pac himself said that he studied Chuck D, KRS, Rakim and wanted to master their flow.

But if someone was to say that Pac had AEOM or other classics written for him, then I would lose all my respect.

I feel you...I'm just trying to understand all the rules and nuances of this shyt...it's cool if you have 4 or 5 songs written for you on an album, and you can still be the GOAT, just as long as it's not what considered to be your best material...or your style was still in transition...or if the dude that wrote it was your close, close homeboy...makes sense from a logical standpoint...kinda how Cam at the end of Paid in Full was like "I ain't snitching on nobody from Harlem..i'll give you some DC nikkas though"

You making way too much sense fam. A lot of these dudes are just switching the narrative when it suites them. Kanye has been called one of the greatest of all time and it's not just because of his production, it's also because of his lyrics as well. All of his albums are critically acclaimed and he has respect from plenty of people. Now all of a sudden he has never been considered a good MC?:stopitslime:

You can't reason with these dudes man, just let them move the goals when they want to and keep it moving.

...and did Sauce think about he and his mother used to rock the show?
He laced the track, and she locked the flow?

:whoa:I'm not a drake Stan, I've heard that Del rumor (specifically "once upon a time in the projects") since the 90's. I trust/believe Del denials, but I wouldn't expect him to throw Cube under the bus either.

Cube has already gotten his ass whooped for biting. Breh isn't a fraud but it shows just how far hip hop has fallen if a legend can get policed back then and a fake like Drake cannot these days.

I didn't mean you. I meant these Drake stans going full retard posting excerpts from the making of "OB4CL", or talking about Jungle wrote "Illmatic", or Superb wrote all of "Supreme Clientele", or Paula Abdul wrote MC Skat Cat's verse....

It's too much man. And it's literally all day, every day, since the Drake reference tracks leaked. These Drake stans don't give a fukk about hip-hop or rap, they'd throw everyone under the bus if it meant Drake's honor got defended.

Ask a guy who everyone knows ghost writes what he thinks of ghost writing brehs.

W-w-w-wait a minute...was Ice Cube a ghostwriter?

I mean, like a lot of you have said if he's credited in the credits
and the rapper says on the record that the writer wrote it, he's not a ghostwriter.

Right?

Oooh yeeeeeah...now we gettin' somewhere...

"Easy is considered a legend", yeah...but as a "legendary rapper"? NO.
Easy on wax, in interviews, everywhere was humble about his pen (or lack thereof).

Kanye always got the stiffarm from me when his writing skirt (npi) got pulled up.
I am so proud that I didn't support that nicca and my record reflects this.
If folks wanna give Ye that "artist" love, hey great. Top 5/10 MC? NO.

I didnt say that.. I said .. at least sauce had somebody that passed so he can put a little emotion in his lyrics...

Dont worry if he writes rhyymes .. .He writes checks..

I never liked Puff like that so I honestly dont care what he does... I respect his "movement" if you wanna call it that but I never thought of him as a MC/rapper anyway..

Ghostwriting never mattered in record making

It dont matter if none dude wrote a song or if 5 wrote it together, that doesnt change how good the song is

Q miller writing rico and 10 bands doesnt make the songs any worse

Using ghostwriters does matter if were talking about how good of a rapper you are though

Cube is right

This.

:yeshrug:Not really a internet rumor but ok..shyts been said for over a decade but that's cool Del spoke on it in 2011

It is an internet rumor because this is the only place where that old ass rumor still has life.

It was debunked damn near 20 years ago by Del. Maybe you never followed Del, I dunno. But anybody that followed Cube and/or Del since the early 90's knows this was a dead issue a good 15-20 years ago. 2011 is far from the first time he's spoke on it.

Extra points?!!? :stopitslime:

Its a business, and as such, you're going to do anything to make sure the foundation of your business model stays intact. Drawing from others in your group produces a faster and meatier project. And as always; "if it sounds good, I'm gonna buy it"...that right there is enough incentive to make sure you get an influx of substance from all over. If you think NWA had only one writer, you're gonna be sorely mistaken.
