i cant believe people are really out here putting beyonce over aaliyah

beyonce made low level intelligence faux pro-female music that really is just slutty and at best feminist type shyt. her music has no soul and she just shouts on tracks, her voice hurts my ear drums

aaliyah had that sweet and soulful vibe that just touches your soul ever so softly and at the same time makes your chest feel heavy and full with the crazy production

to me you cant compare the two, its like comparing nas with jayz. one is filled with soul and untampered talent, the other is just there because the industry set them up to be glamerous and a poster child.

the main argument nikkas have for beyonce is her sales, and the same goes for jayz. they are perfect for each other, both dominate in the corporate white man world and make poisonous music for brainless people

Nikkas talmbout diddy a better dancer than Aaliyah.View media item 12452

At this point, posters will post anything just to downplay Aaliyah. Even though I don't agree with the premise of the thread, I ain't have to downplay Aaliyah to do it. A lot of posters in this thread also disagreed with it without doing it either.

And yeah, Aaliyah wad not overrated because of her death. A lot of aspects of Aaliyah's music was praised before 2001. One In A Million was already considered one of the best albums of the 90's. Her music was already being sampled (including her voice). People were mimicking the dance moves from her videos. "Are You That Somebody" was a staple on The Box. She was gracing magazine covers. She had a record breaking #1 single. Her songs were taking soundtracks that had no other hits, but her's to platinum and double platinum status.

She wasn't some product of producers and writers either. She had hit songs outside of R. Kelly, Missy, Timbo, and Static. Timbaland scored his first hit song with her. Missy scored one of her first hits with her. If I'm not mistaken, she was the first of R. Kelly's outside projects to take off. "The One I Gave My Heart To" is one of her biggesy songs and not one of them contributed to its creation. Same goes for "I Don't Wanna".

That ain't the point. If an artist is the product of producers and writers, they aren't going far without a certain sound. Aaliyah had success with multiple writers and producers. A lot of other singers failed to have success outside of their core sound.

Never said they weren't hits. I was using "The One I Gave My Heart To l" as an example of Aaliyah not beong the product of a producer or writer. If you want to harp on Diane Waren though, are you trying to say Aaliyah was a product of her writing. If so, that's a long list of products that include Aaliyah contemporaries, who tapped Warren to write some of their biggest hits after Aaliyah worked with her (Monica with "For You I Will" and Brandy with "Have You Ever").

I'm just pointing she was working with another powerhouse.

Aaliyah alongside Monica, and Brandy were the 3 headed TEEN dragons in the mid to late 90's...

STOP IT

there was no 3-headed dragon.

it was monica versus brandy
..........and then everybody else.

I think you better do some research on the artist youre defending, before you attack another artists' character.

Aaliyah's entire career was setup by the industry & bloodline.

and lol @ Aaliyah being some sort of soulful songstress. GTFO. Aaliyah was a predecessor to all the "singers" on the radio today, that yall complain about all the time.

They aren't generally held opinions. They are contrarian opinions.

Breh, you continue to quote my posts and then ask me to stop talking to you, but I'm the one with the disorder. You clearly have issues with people disagreeing with you and calling you on your bull.

well you continue to quote me first. what am I supposed to do?

and now youre just exposing yourself.
Aaliyah being a bad performer was a contrarian opinion now?

youre weird.

She was never a strong vocalist. She did a falsetto whisper in her songs because she couldn't belt.

She didn't put enough work in during her career. Aaliyah took to many breaks for too long. Her peers still to this day have never taken multiple hiatus' from their work. She disappeared for a year after her first album, came back, did a few performances here and there, disappeared again, came out with a film four years later, and disappeared until the Spring of when her 3rd album was released. All those years she spent out of the spotlight were the years other performers were performing at award shows and going on worldwide tours. So by the time her 3rd album came out she probably lost a lot of her fanbase, hence why her 3rd album sells took a dip.

breh.

we seem to agree that she couldn't sing.

I'm just not with the idea of making excuses for her.

her peers like brandy & monica took the same type of long hiatuses. Aaliyah just couldn't sing, and she only got on cuz of family.

The difference between me and you is I'm not in here all emotional saying "I'm done talking to you" yet you continue quoting me for days on end with the same ol jazz.

They actually didn't. Nowhere in Brandys career from 1994 to 2001 did she take a hiatus. She either worked on her show, an album, or a movie. All of the big acts from that era put themselves out there nonstop and unfortunately Aaliyah never did that. She took a five year hiatus when she was still a new artist when really she should've kept pumping out albums ever 1 to 2 years to build up a solid fanbase.

All of them took hiatuses from albums. Monica and Brandy never stepped away for five years though. They took 3 year hiatuses at most.
