If Aaliyah was still here, do you think she would be the best female artist in R&B/Pop right now?

where as this timbaland machine when Aaliyah's last album flopped?

timbaland himself had to go pop to stay afloat.

and who are are these artists that stayed poppin thanks to timbaland's so-called machine? I cant think of any. and don't give me any names like Justin timberlake who sold more records before dealing with timbaland.

in other words, you have nothing to say.:mjlol:

Well I think that five year break she took from 96-01 hurt her, people probably wanted an album somewhere in between that time and might've lost their patience by the time her 3rd album actually came out

People act like that her third album wasn't flopping critically and commercially before her death. Aaliyah was carried solely on production, image, and song writing. She wasn't even the top R&B artist at her preak(that would go to Mary J, brandy, faith, etc) Average singer, dancer, and actor. She was fizzling out fast. If she hadn't died she would probably be Cassie status being a concubine for a rich mogul.

Aaliyah was not flopping critically or commercially. Aaliyah received glowing reviews before death and was actually gold before she died. And it has always been understood that MJB was a top R&B female artist of that era. Nothing new there. Brandy had ceossed over, which again, nothing new.

All that other jazz is as bad as saying Aaliyah would be bigger than Beyonce. It's all exaggeration and speculation.

If beyonce died in a plane crash in 2001, she wouldnt have gotten the same response in the world about her death.

aailyah in the game since 92
beyonce since 96? i believe........
aaliyah and beyonce same age, but beyonce claims 2 years younger, 81.
her nikkname was SAND and aaliyah even knew that.
both had different reputations and clout in 2001

Album was getting tons of mixed reviews and stalled at like 400k before death. Stop it. She was already floundering. She would be semi retired she didn't have lasting power

Timbaland was the biggest producer out at the time. "We Need A Resolution" just failed to match the massive success if "Try Again". In 2001, Tim produced one of Missy's biggest albums, "Raise Up" was huge, " Ugly" was huge, Luda's "Roll Out" was huge. Well after Aaliyah's death, Tim was still a hit machine. He broke Tweet, produced Missy's biggest album in Under Construction, gave Jay "Dirt Off Your Shoulders", produced one of Brandy's better albums, gave LL a hit with "Headsprung", etc.

well beyonce was much bigger than Aaliyah in 2001.

@ the bolded - are we gonna pretend that Aaliyah wasn't getting passed around?

I could care less about beyonce but theres never any validity to the SAND thing. as opposed to Aaliyah's well-known sexcapades.

what sexscapades?? you think aaliyah got with jay z?? :dead:
thats why he made an album with r kelly. why would jay make an album with a man he shared her with?

grow the fukk up. aaliyah was a solo artist on the rnb charts
beyonce was in an all girl group who was on the pop charts

if beyonce got burned the way aaliyah did, no offense, no one would be as upset as they were when they heard aaliyah was

you give a woman who got on the pop charts and didnt have a fan following in 1994 too much credit.
how old are you again??

beyonce was swallowing loads. and jays was one of them
aaliyah never fukked jay z

You don't have to tell me that, I was being sarcastic with him. I'm well aware of how things were then. I was there.

There wasn't mixed reviews. Metacritic has it at a 76% which is pretty high considering an 81% is universal acclaim. It takes scores from reviews all across the board and averages them.

Aaliyah doing 400K before she died, means she was averaging 100K per week pre-death considering she died nearly 1 month after the album came out.

Oh nah, I meant to reply to you in agreeance with what you said about the disrespect.

The Timbo bit was in response to his post abot Tim barely staying afloat.

Aaliyah kept it real. Didn't sell out and leave her black audience just to hit it big with the masses. She couldve easily started spitting out manufactured pop music but she stayed true to her roots. Couldve been pushing out britney spears type songs in 99/2000 but did songs like Come Back in One Piece and I Dont Wanna. She didnt abandon her fanbase for money like a lot of these rnb artists are doing. She stayed in her rnb/hip hop circle whether it was music or movies. Dame, timb, static dmx :banderas: aaliyah was a real one
