If Aaliyah was still here, do you think she would be the best female artist in R&B/Pop right now?

Janet was doing all that

Yeah, but Janet is a predecessor

As far as Aaliyah`s peer group is concerned there was no female r&b artists doing what she was doing.

When she died, Beyonce came along & filled that lane in & was able to be molded into what she became.

Well, that ain't too far off :russ: she did a lot of very choreographed stuff and that's it. Just go back and watch her stuff, she wasn't doing a whole lot. MJ, Chris Brown, Ciara, and young Usher would blow her off the stage. Hell, Aaliyah probably wasn't even a better dancer than Diddy :dead:

Everyone you just named is choreographed to a degree. MJ is the most natural dancer of evryone in that list. I'm willing to bet a lot of posters in here don't know who Fatima or Lorianne are, but they are real dancers who came up with the steps and routines in the videos. Fatima even choreographed MJ.

:camby:With Comparing Aaliyah to Diddy. She wasn't James Brown or MJ, but clearly better than Puff

Diddy can dance tho. How you think he got in the industry dancing.

Beyoncé was not discredited to big up Aaliyah. Saying Beyoncé was bigger than Aaliyah in 2001 is in error because Beyoncé wasn't solo at that point.

Man please destinys child was beyonce singing the lead and background vocals, also the writings on the wall sold 9 million in 1999, so yea Beyoncé was already a big deal

Have you heard about her nikkname sand though? Who gave that name to her?
Also, her group members were a big deal too. Kelly came out first with her album and did great.. then Michelle... did great. Then Beyoncé to outshine them and take all the glory. So Aaliyah solo > Beyoncé member

They were all looking up to Janet. Janet was almost MIke level when Bey, Aaliyah, Brandy were all growing up in the early 90s. Janet was still selling out tours, doing movies, #1 hits, etc when they were getting into the game. Aaliyah never set the world on fire like that, she was a good R&B artist that never really got past 106 & Park...

Kelly Rowland also sang lead and background vocals on those albums. What's your point?

In 1999, it was the first time Beyonce stepped out on her own as a solo by appearing on Missy's sophomore album and appearing in Case's "Happily Ever After" video. Her solo career was years in the making, but she didn't blow until "Bonnie & Clyde" popped off and "Crazy In Love" put her in orbit as one of the biggest artists in the game. Before that happened, she had a flopped single and was on the verge of being shelved.

Diddy had his moments, but Diddy also has a bunch of laughable moments as a dancer that outweigh the good ones. When Puff wasn't choreographed, he was a disaster. You could compare his 1998 AMA performance to everything after and see the difference. The AMA performance was lit. Everything after though:laff:

how's that possible when One In A Million sold 9+ million copies??? she was In block buster flicks.. multi top ten bill board singles... yet couldn't get past 106 and park...
Yeah and Janet was way bigger than that, she was the model, not Aaliyah, and what blockbuster flicks you talking about? Jet Li? And where you getting that 9 mil copies from? I need to see receipts. It sold about 3.7 and half that happened after she died...

Uh context, read what I was applying to

Context made no sense. Janet did it first, no DUH...but guess what???
there was someone doing it before Janet... and some one before that. This is like bringing up Micheal Jackson when we're talking about Usher, and Timberlake in the early 2000's....
This thread is about Aaliyah. At the time in 2001, between all the young RNB female acts, Aaliyah had the slot.
You keep bringing up Janet, as if she was Aaliyah's peer, as if they came out the same time or was in the same age range... No duh Janet Jackson was the model, Aaliyah said it one in a millions of times.
