Of course they would be. They're intellectuals engaging in discourse. Tell them to put those words over a beat, package it for an audience, and see if they could maintain the same level of analysis.

Would you say Marvin Gaye was using "simple tropes" on What's Going On or Bob Marley's music was "lite hotep analysis?"

Positive music is more about creating a vibe or sprit than it is about providing in depth social analysis. It's the soundtrack not the movie.

Do you want people chanting "Fight the Power" or "Molly, Percocet?"
Go ahead brother, what you said is real talk.

Now I'm not fully against trap music but their should definitely be more balance and there should be room for more positive music. This brother trying to down play conscious rap is tripping.

But they are attempting to put forward in-depth social analysis in their music and interviews, and their fans (as seen in this thread) co-sign their flawed analysis. Gaye and Marley also weren't engaging in some condescending moral grandstanding in their music filled with half-assed analysis.
nikka do future and these trap nikkas tell you how to really sell dope? No. Do they tell you how to cut dope or stash a gun? No.

With that said my point is, these brothers doing conscious music are just the tip of the ice berg and they never claimed to be experts but at least they getting people to think and to open their mind beyond the bullshyt.

I agree with you as far as interviews go (except for Killer Mike) but I don't expect them to go in depth over the course of two 16 bar verses.

I don't really think it's grandstanding as much as it is frustration with the lack of balance. Marvin and Bob didn't have to compete with that. There's a handful of rappers with positive messages and dozens of trap or street centric artists with new ones popping up weekly.

At the end of the day I'm not going to knock a rapper for making an effort to promote positivity. The music still has to be good but I'll salute them.

There is a clear difference between being upset and discussing the lack of balance in radio vs. being condescending in regards to the behavior of trap fans. Joey is not the first to do this shyt, others before him have come through with that line of argument and they hide behind the "balance" argument. If it was just about the lack of balance then that is fine, but the silly tropes and infantile social commentary? Nah I'm gonna call out the laziness behind the rhetoric.

Be honest now, you're like almost 40 n felt threatened by a mention of a young nikka making bank
Your man sells karmann ghia's to nonagenarians. I hope you don't idolize dude, otherwise your future's lookin' pretty damn bleak.

But to answer your question, I'm 36 years old, got married in 2006, and have two healthy young boys. We live in a nice house in San Diego that we bought 12 years ago when the market dipped during the recession. Now our home is worth a considerable amount more, and once our kids graduate from college we're gonna sell our house and buy a fat condo downtown and have intercourse on the balcony at least twice a week (let's be realistic).

So yeah, I'm old. Hope you make it to my age one day; preferably not by selling cars.

So you're calling out positive rappers? :stopitslime:

Are they damaging the community? Joey isn't hurting anybody.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
Yeah because wearing baggy clothes or skinny jeans that you think are cool or putting some tough guy front on is the fukking gateway to slanging dope in the trap and killing people.

Do posters not see the giant chasm between these two things ?

Good fukking lord the argumentation that gets dapped on the coli is mind blowing.

Being an obnoxious ass hat who dresses loudly like the migos whilst quoting their lyrics does not make one an actual thug or drug dealer. I can't believe I actually have to say this on a supposed Hip-Hop site.
I missed the part where I said it influences you to do everything they say

I said it influences you. Motherfukkers act like they listen to music, turn it off, and it has zero bearing on their actions in life. WRONG

No you might not go kill a nikka and sell crack. But you damn sure might walk around quoting future and doing drugs and acting like a fake tough guy.

and then there are those who think, well if I want to get this money and cars and hoes and lifestyle... I can sell a little weed or coke or molly and get it fast

Suburb nikkas who don't need to. But bumping that music like it's the soundtrack to life, when they should be studying and using that extra step to climb higher than some trap shyt

But keep on believing that listening to the same repetitive message for hours, days, years, decades has no effect on your mentality
