I like Joey but he's taking things too far lately. People listen to music for all types of reasons: to party, for run, relaxation, discovery, therapy, etc. The only thing you can judge someone on based on their music is their music IQ/experience. If all you listen to is trap or pop music you aren't really expanding or challenging your taste. That's literally the only thing you can tell based off music alone. You aren't better than anyone because you listen to Radiohead or Elzhi.

you're missing the point....if the music influenced the actions and had a real correlation to between IQ, whites being the biggest consumers of the most of the said music would make the theory fall flat. Remember, those were the claims whites had been making on "black" music in the USA since the late 19th century. The music of let's say gangsta rap or trap music isn't having the mass influence (as in it didn't birth gang banging or trapping) that you think in the black community as much as the everyday reality/environment is the life force and influence for said hiphop substyles.

About the subject at hand: what people want is what they get. They wanna dream of being that nikka with all the bytches, money, and goons at his beck and call? That's what they'll listen to. That doesn't mean that everyone who listens to it is ignorant. Some people listen to that shyt to get pumped because all that alpha-talk gets them motivated to get things done. It really depends on the nature of the listener and how passive they are in regards to their environment.

Thats why i dont like shallow surface level concious crap like his latest lp(i like it just not the whole concious stuff), Kendrick, cole,etc

nikkas get praised to high heaven for releasing projects because they uttered a few words about brutality and black poverty(And dont offer no solutions or anything) despite what awful performance of rapping they do in the album, and/or the albums quality.

I think there are definitely "Conscious" rappers who fall to cliche just like their
gangsta rap peers but I disagree on J. Cole even though his last LP featured
some of his laziest writing yet (though it was paired with a cool concept...)

However what I really disagree on is Kendrick Lamar,I feel if there's definitely one rapper (that's popular at least)
it's HIM who HUMANIZES these people.
They don't become Stereotype stuffed Strawman to combat but PEOPLE, whether he's talking about
young prostitutes who see a certain agency attached to selling their bodies or poor friends who see the
ostentatious displays of wealth by famous rappers as almost a "taunt".

I listen to songs like "How Much A Dollar Cost ?" then contrast it with something like "Humble".
And I see a guy who tries his best to NOT be the pretentious psuedo intellect completely impressed
with himself but rather "One of the people".

This mentality was used when Trayvon and several other young black men were
murdered at the hands of white men.

The idea of linking aggressive behavior to Hip-Hop or any other form of Black Music IS NOT
OLD. And you would do well to see why endorsing such a mindset can have devastating effects
in REAL LIFE.

People talk about "Progress" and "Fighting racism" but a good way to start would be to acknowledge
that violent media is consumed by all in this country but there's really only one specific group of people
