Convenience...cost...and the social aspect of it.

Also I wanna throw in that I actually prefer using controllers for games that WERE MADE for controllers....yes I know mouse and keyboard is more accurate for aiming....i also know that any competitive PC online game was made for the tradition mouse/keyboard PC setup. Even though you can use a controller....you ain't fukking with a mouse and keyboard player on the other end and I enjoy using a controller than using a mouse or anything similar.

But yea...none of friends play PC online...majority of my console gaming is online...if I was to drop 600-700 on a PC for gaming...I'd only really get a few single player games going and be running back to a console to play online...doesn't sound like a good plan lol

Naw man, you have no idea what you are talking about, and since I happen to study developing OS's ( Good book for you Operating System Concepts, 6th Edition: Abraham Silberschatz, Peter B. Galvin, Greg Gagne, A Silberschatz: 9780471417439: Amazon.com: Books )

and Game Programming, I'll break it down for you..:krs:

Open up Task Manager on your computer and tell me how many of those processes/services running right now are dedicated to "Gaming", I'll wait( all of these process fight for the OS attention ). Believe it or not Desktop OS's are designed to running many types of programs. So when you are running your PC game, you have a lot of things going on In the background that hurts the performance of your game. Consoles don't have to worry about this as they are stripped down to focus only on games, they don't have to worry about running 3D Studio Max, MS Office, antivirus.

Consoles Games also run closer to the hardware than PC games. Desktop OS's have several abstraction layers so they can run across different types of hardware( why you think iOS is faster than android running on the same specs ).

The reason PC games look better and run faster is through Brute Force, the hardware is so much more powerful that it can take the hit of other non-gaming operating activities going on.

So lets say you take a PS3/Xbox( Xbox happens to run a stripped down version of windows:beli: ) vs a PC with the same specs. When the OS gets the memo from your program to execute this call it goes like this

On the Console, that call will probably pass through 3 layers
On the Desktop, the call will probably pass through 8 layers( again gaming is *NOT* the main concern of any Desktop OS ).

I'm not even arguing PC gaming vs Console Gaming, I'm talking about something build from the ground up(or stripped down) with one thing in mind vs something that was built with general purposes. Next you're going to tell me the home version of Windows is faster( or on par )with the Server version for handling any type of traffic.:beli:

I even have audio where John Carmack speaks about this.:krs:

Edit: for the record I love all types of gaming, so i'm not taking sides.

Villain got that ether lol

Let the ignorant continue with their ways. Hell you literally had a few in here defending Microsoft's BS ass policies.

That is ALL you need to know about some of the people you, @Malta @2gunsup and @daze23 are going back and forth with.

Not even worth replying back tbh. PC is always the #1 option for those who want the best of the best, consoles are secondary to us and nice backup options to have for exclusives.
Ignorance is lack of knowledge, something you exhibit when you discuss anything xbox related. You have been spreading lie after lie just like the rest of the PSfanboys. Thats ignorance, thats YOU. The policies your hating on, you can't even speak on because there policies wasn't even finalized and til this day still isn't.

So yeah, for you to say it was bad/etc means you chose to be ignorant and voice your ignorant ass opinion as fact :leon:

XB1 + XBL will be similar to steam, something you use and speak highly of
XB1's system will be better than that. So shuddap :suge: cuuuuuuuuz

He's actually correct though, Desktop OS's have more overhead than Console OS's...

I mean if you took the specs of the current consoles and build a PC with the same specs , the games would look like crap.:laff:

Thank you. And they were calling me dumb and a troll.

:beli: and they're supposed to be the "PC gamers"

I have an earlier edition of that silberschatz, good book for beginner os understanding

but uh...there are some fallacies in your post, even though most of it is correct.

first of all...brute force is a weird term to use for this. more like raw power.

second of all...while system calls produce insane overhead, you can avoid using most of them, and pretty much all game programmers do.

and in todays world with SSDs, dozens of gigs of ram, most of OS overhead is relatively negligible

same with layers of abstraction, really. all those calls if done correctly execute extremely fast. and at the end its the same memory read/write and CPU instructions, with I/O being bottleneck

the main problem with pcs vs consoles is that some parts of consoles can be 'hacked' and utilized for something a PC part usually never does because you run other shyt

like skyrim and shadow processing on console CPU, which was obviously not the way to do shyt on PC.

you are dumb AND a troll. you couldnt understand why its easier to optimize software on consoles.

:mindblown: what?

I never said it wasn't easier to optimize a game for consoles. I said to go along with that, consoles are optimized for games. Which is why consoles are able to squeeze so much performance out such shytty parts.
