Lmao at Illmatic being a flop. You really don't know your shyt, huh?
If you come out in 1994 and take 7 years to go plat then yea you flopped
Flopped so much that you changed your entire musical style to reach the success you wished you would of got the first time out
Meanwhile other debut albums from new artist were going plat and even multiplat in a matter of a year or so
artists such as
Coolio
Warren G
Bone
Da brat
Outkast
Notorious B.i.g.

He had to drop 3 plat or better albums for people to stay around long enough and slowly push illmatic to plat after he was a success for several years and had his album talked up since day 1

My nikka i've never heard someone in my off the internet life call illmatic a classic, any red album a classic etc. so what you saying?
It's funny that the only albums that can flop yet still get heralded as bonafide classic are either east coast or albums that cater to a east coast sound.
And i see through the bullshyt.
I've also have never heard red was a great rapper from anyone
You missed the magazines saying it in physical print? You missed rappers saying it on physical cd's? You missed radios saying it over FM technology?

And we just talked about 3 of Pac's albums being undeniable classics, why would the album featuring New Yorkers recorded before he started going in on New Yorkers, when he constantly was out there be less catered to an East Coast sound? :what:. And I could give you an examples, but you just played yourself.

I could care less about the media because they are bias. And i could care less about brainwashed see n say artists as well. I care about the general public, the common man and i've never seen illmatic praised, never heard mf's bumping it etc.
What album are you talking about in the bolded?
lmao at me being moved by a mag where some lil chink broad gives a album 5 mics, means nothing to me.

He's in my top 10 but I could understand why he's not in other people's because he has no real content. Majority of his music is just rapping about smoking weed, bytches, and petty crimes while putting them in clever metaphors. and while most rappers have somewhat similar content, the best ones actually do it with a message/meaning or storytelling.

Some people who are big into content might not put him there.
This. He's in my top 10 just 'cause I fukk with his rhyming heavy. But I can't pretend he has one of the best discographies or has any substance. His style is so unique and dope I give him a pass I wouldn't grant to most other rappers.

All the magazines, and it wasn't the info who gave rating. She wrote down the words the squad told her to write.

What about other rappers, like every single other rapper from across the whole fukking world, you don't care what they say? All you care about is what the dudes in Cincinnati say? This dudes got book to go to like the worlds most popping festival, as far from NY as you can get in the states. Just to play Illmatic.

And I'm obviously talking about Thug Life.

Let's end this discussion, you must either be from Slovakia or some shyt, or you are trolling.

Born and raised In Cincinnati and no i dont care for them mags or what any rapper on a cd has said about the albums. If i wasnt around in real time, maybe i would. But when i watched it flop, and watched it not be a big deal in the general public, there's no point of me being influenced by bullshyt.
If it meant that much to that many people then why did it flop?
Cause it wasnt as big as the media made it out to be,obviously.

i really want to understand this equation:
Illmatic has been praised in mags
Praised by mc's bigging it up
Supposedly has great production from legends
Great raps from nas
and all this is supposed to mean that it had a great impact on people
Meanwhile people didnt support it and it took 7 years to go plat
meanwhile several other debut albums from rappers in 1994 all went plat or better within a year or so,how is illmatic's legacy amongst the general population not a farce?

He always in my top 10. I remember me and my brother got into an argument when I said Redman is better Jay-Z while my brother was like :wtf: , mind you he likes Redman and was a Jay-Z stan. I told him go listen to the first 4 albums again and better yet just get buzzed while you listen to his albums. He did and I said to him, now go listen to your favorite rapper Jay-Z albums again while u on high. Give me your answer in two days. He was like :ehh: "You're right bro , Redman is better than Jay-Z". Redman albums all sound different unique style while Jay-Z all albums sound so similar and following the trendish.

You knew boss would be in here putting his inferiority complex on full display.

Anyway, Reggie's first 3 are undeniable classic material.

Consistency mostly been a hardcore Red fan but his last few albums have been kinda lackluster. He deserves top 20 but top might be pushing...But my list has LL as top 6:yeshrug:

Em..big..nas..pac..jay...in that order ..lyrical skills only....:sas1::sas2:

last redman album that counted to me was doc's da name and that was back in 98'. every other solo albums has been wack as fukk
but those 1st 4 red albums from whut to doc's da name are golden in my book
plus he dropped that el nino with sermon and murray too!

man, redman is like the unsung mc of the 90's in a way now
i mean, you got other cats who were really underrated like az but i feel like redman still never really gets the props he deserves as an mc
the crazy thing about it is, he never went anywhere. he still tours like it's 90's today so he's everywhere
