Math has changed drastically. Back in junior high, the parenthesis would've been first.

6÷2(1+2)

Parenthesis = (1+2) =3
Exponent
Multiplication and Division were interchangeable depending on which was first = 6÷2 = 3

Addition and Subtraction, whichever comes first.

3×3=9

-----------------‐--------------------------

Somewhere along the line, they made multiplication before division and addition before subtraction after I graduated.

In that case = 6÷2(1+2)

1+2=3
2×3=6
6÷6=1

No one's technically dumb, they just changed the formula. It used to be left to right as long as parenthesis and exponent came first.

ChatGPT answer is 9:

6÷2(1+2)
  1. Simplify inside the parentheses:
    6÷2(3) \div 2(3)6÷2(3)
  2. Now the expression is:
    6÷2×36 \div 2 \times 36÷2×3
  3. Following the order of operations (PEMDAS/BODMAS), perform division and multiplication from left to right:
    3×3=9 \times 3 = 9×3=9
So, the answer is: 9

I got it wrong too. The ÷ and / may mean the same thing, but how they operate are different. Everything in the denominator of a fraction divides into the numerator, which gives us 1, while the division sign is just another action that is done left to right when multiplication and division are involved in the PEMDAS.

edit: Wait, Chatgpt giving nosensical stuff in this too. Hah, damn A.I. cooked

It’s 9… its 1 if you went to a school that used old ass text books in the 80’s
People don't understand thinking other than what they personally know........shyt has been taught a number of different ways and it was in the mid to late 90s as well

So basically PEMDAS can become PEDMAS based on order of operations. A lot of people get the answer wrong because they're thinking PEMDAS is a concrete rule meaning you always do multiplication first and then division.

If I'm wrong in standing on it and not deleting this.
Fck it
Parentheses, first multiply then divide
