If the only goal is to win a title, stopping Strasburg at 165 makes zero sense

When you make the offs, especially a mid level team like the Nats you HAVE to do everything possible to win for two reasons, one you might not make it back for a while, and two anyone can win in baseball. Now Im not saying trade a top prospect for merely decent hitter to try to go for it but you already have Strasburg, youre not really putting him at THAT much risk having him pitch to 182 or whatever the projection was plus some playoff games. Like the odds would still be low that that would be the reason he gets hurt. So how the fucck do you not stop the innings limit. I mean we arent talking Mark Prior, he wont pitch 210 innings plus playoffs. Hes gonna pitch 30 innings less basically. You have to take this opportunity. If Stras is winning 20 games but they aint making the offs so its wasted for the next 3-4 years theyll regret not going for it

Actually the idea they arent going for it is pretty ridiculous when you think about it. Its putting way too much stock in something completely unproven

Don't Believe the Hype
The innings thing is so arbitrary. They should let him pitch, but give him some more time between starts
dudes arm is NOT going to fall off.

Must we look at pitchers back in the day throwing 300+ innings a year? Now, athletes are more healthy, stronger and able to stand more mileage.

Yes, I know there's more money invested these days but stop babying. Did it work out for Joba? F*ck no...

I see both sides, but if you are in 1st place and a World Series looks very possible then you have to pitch him. Any other situation I'd say shut him down, but you dont have a very big window to win championships in baseball especially if you arent spending 150 mill + a year

They over pitched Joba and his arm fell off

I don't know why the number is arbitrary considering that doctors say that the innings should be limited.

I also think it's funny how people think this is the Nats only chance at getting a title. Best record in baseball and yet the hitting has sucked most of the season outside of Ian Desmond. Our closer has been on the DL most of the year. The Nats have had so many injuries it's hilarious. And this team is very, very young. This contending thing is long term and I would rather have Strasburg for that, then to have his arm fall off after this year. And the best case to limit his innings is the guy who has been the best pitcher on the staff, and arguably NL, in Jordan Zimmerman. He had TJ surgery two years ago, had his innings limited last season, and is a CY Young contender this year without any issues.

I feel they need to spread Strasburg's starts to make sure he reaches 160, or whatever the limit is, at a better time but this is a long term thing, not just one season.

how? This Nats team is young and really good, and has these guys on contracts for the next 4-5 years. BUt the bats have stunk this season. I dont want Strasburg to be shut down, but if he is losing velocity on his pitches or is suffering from tiredness in his arm, etc. Its probably best to shut him down. It worked for Zimmerman last season and he has been outstanding this year. I dont believe this is the only year this team will contend and its a shock that with all the injuries and problems we have had that we are still contending. I follow this team, and its been amazing to see their record without any of these hitters having career years outside of LaRouche. And the Lerners are willing to spend that buwead, so I dont know where this mid-table crap is coming from.

If the doctors say their should be a limit, then I trust them over what uninformed media types and fans say.

There are two reasons the Nats are shutting down Straus, one is because they want to prolong his stay in DC(Boras is Straus agent, and they want to keep that service time low, or at least prevent him from becoming a FA in his late 20's) and last is for health reasons.

I understand what Washington is doing, and I'd do the same thing. The Nats are 5.5 games ahead in the division with a month and 3 quarters left of baseball to go, unless they have a tragic collapse, the Nats will make the postseason. Sure Strausburg would help the Nats in the PS, but October baseball is fluky, once you're in.. anything can happen(see the 2011 Cardinals; 2010 Giants, 2008 Rays).

Don't people plan for the "future" when success comes - isn't this it? If they wanna limit him to 5 innings or something sure, but this is ridiculous
