In cars/trucks you would push the clutch pedal in with your foot and shift gears with your hand using the stick shift. I work in the motorcycle industry and a lot of people get it confused from cars, on bikes you shift with your foot and clutch with your left hand.

I think tiptronic is a good alternative, automatic but you can use it to be lame and impress a chick.

Manual transmission is also pointless for regular driving in 2016 and a pain in the ass for uphill and downhill.
