Not really; but I would hope it would lead to a scientific revolution. If people knew there was nothing after you die, we would probably spend massive amount of money on research to extend human life. We would develop more cures, because demand would increase. This is very true but I wasn't trying to convince him the a God didn't exist. The burden of proof is on the person making the argument.

Life isn't hard because He made it hard. Life is hard because we have made it hard by our actions. The consequences of sin has made life what it is today. Otherwise, we would be able to actually see God, talk to God, eat with God, face to face right now. That day is coming again, but only to the people that believe in Jesus and the Salvation that He gives.

God doesn't make anybody kill another person. God doesn't give anybody a sickness. God doesn't cause your Dad or Mom to die before you're a teenager. God doesn't cause terrible accidents. The consequences of sin cause this. This is exactly what Satan wants. This doesn't mean because you sin bad things will always happen to you, this means because we all sin, the earth isn't the way it is suppose to be. It was perfect when God first created it. Nothing bad every happened, until the day Adam & Eve, our ancestors, gave into temptation.

But to believers of the bible... that moral compass is basically the premise of the 10 commandments.. Everything we do in life consciously and subconsciously is either in agreement or disagreement with the 10 commandments.. therefore if we do them instinctly.. its born within us... since its GOD's commandments we can conclude GOD instilled then in our DNA/makeup.. so then our basic moral compass would be a reflection of GOD

edit: whatever you call your GOD and whatever religion you are is irrelevant.. the premise is the same

Or perhaps GOD is but one interpretation of what really is. I look at religions like this....different interpretations/views upon the actual powers that be, or the creator him/her/itself. Only problem with a good lot of religions is that they are often corrupted doctrines created to serve some sort of selfish purpose...

He didnt create sickness or death... when adam and eve ate from the tree of knowledge they learned about those things.. and God just allowed Satan to do what he wanted (sort of).. He basically fell back ... since they wanted to believe and follow satan .. he said go ahead..
