I can't "diagnose" without knowing more about individual situations, but I do know there is more to sobriety than just not drinking, if you are a real alcoholic, though if you are considering treatment, it's likely you fit the definition.
Just not drinking may get you a few months or weeks without drinking, but 1) you may pick up other self destructive habits and 2) you will VERY likely start drinking/using again.
You have to realize why you are doing it, and why you need to change how you feel.
