9 and 10 years old. Michael Jackson is the king. Vanity, Paula Abdul and Karyn White are my crushes. Homebody. Used to go in pops closet to look at his Playboys and Penthouse mags. Fresh was the Source, Black Beat was Vibe and Right On was XXL. Posters on my wall included Paula Abdul, The Boys, DeBarge, MJ, Luther Vandross.....

COPs and TMNT were my favorite cartoons. Hot 97 was a dance station. Bobby Brown was killing the game. Kiss FM is where you tuned in for Hip Hop on Friday nights. Video Music Box introdcued me to Hip Hop.

I still say " It Takes Two" by Rob Base and EZ Rock was the Hip Hop anthem of 1988.

1988 is hands down one of my favorite years, especially for Hip Hop. In 88 cursing on records was rare so when u heard it, it was a big thing. Unlike now were cursing is the norm. LL was the hip hop king but Slick Rick came out of no where and made a lot of noise. Run DMC were still doing there thing but Rakim , PE, Big Daddy Kane and BDP were the new kids on the block killing it.

Lowkey, Biz Markie had the most bangers that year

My Grandmother died in 88. The effects of crack begin to show in my hood. I wanted in. People were getting murdered weekly. I ran away from home. Got locked up, Hip Hop was so alive at the time. I rocked Patrick Ewing adidas, Diadoras, Filas, Jordans... Me and my little 3 man crew had dreams of pooling $ from sales and buying a Car. I remember making 30 for every hundred that I sold... Some of lifes largest scars came from that year. It also produced some of my fondest memories and lifes most valuable lessons...
