Lowkey, Biz Markie had the most bangers that year
Nah...it wasn't low key. Biz Markie was very big in the Hip Hop scene.....especially in BX and Harlem. In 88 the car systems defined what was hot. Biz Markie songs were everywhere when it came to whoever had a system blasting. Biz was a monster in 88 , 89 and 1990........VH1 was wrong......Biz Markie was not a one hit wonder...Biz had 5 hit songs(the exact ones u posted) way before "Just A Friend"
In 88 I bought my first cassette tapes with my own money....(bought my first record back in 87 with my own money...it was The Jackson 5 Skywriter album) The first tape I bought was The Boys first album.
R&B and pop music were bigger in my world around this time but Video Music Box introodcued me to Hip Hop in 88. This was when Eazy E had We Want Eazy and BDP had stage shows as videos (Criminal Minded and Still #1 ) Cookie Crew, Rob Base and EZ Rock, Salt N pepa.....Rakim had I aint No Joke......LL Cool J had Im Bad.....Run DMC had Runs House......Before all thsi I wasnt into Hip Hop...it wasn't till Hot 97 and Kiss FM had Jeff and Prince's Nightmare On My Street in there top 5 at 9 at the same time.....I'd listen to the one on Hot 97 then fl;ip over to catch the one on Kiss because Kiss played the whole song while Hot 97 played an editted version. That song was the first Hip Hop song I ever got into.....Memorized, recorded, wrote down on paper and played to my freinds and family. I would eventually buy the album......the 2nd tape I ever bought was Dj Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Princes 2nd album
Me and my friends would be all over the place, sometimes clear across the way somewhere I wasn't even allowed to go yet.
